Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1212
1878 $1 7TF Reverse of '79. NGC graded MS-64 Deep Prooflike. Primarily untoned with flashy deep prooflike fields. Liberty's portrait is very frosty. First year of issue, and an impressively looking coin. Notice how nice the cheek is on Liberty; and the way the deatil of the sharp eagle stands out in bold relief. Low population, too: Pop 8; 1 finer in 65 DPL.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,400.

Lot 1221
1879-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63 Prooflike. Predominantly untoned with shimmering prooflike fields. Beautifully untoned with chalky white devices and a nice reflective sheen on the obverse and reverse, being just far enough along to sport the desirable Prooflike designation. We do note Liberty's cheek as being much fresher than average for a dollar grading MS63, and with fewer field marks as well. Pop 90; 68 finer, 61 in 64, 7 in 65 (PCGS # 7087) .

1879-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-62. Well struck and untoned. Very attractive in this grade, the 1879-CC perfect mintmark Morgan dollar is an elusive issue in better Mint State grades. The specimen being offered displays ice-white surfaces that are free of all but the most trivial bagmarks, with the reverse nicer by a point or two. The strong strike never wavers at the centers, unlike some, which is always positive, meaning that the overall eye appeal is improved (PCGS # 7086) .

1879-CC Top 100 VAM-3 Capped CC. NGC graded MS-61. Both sides are nicely toned. An attractive Carson City VAM variety, with coruscating luster typical of the early CC mint dollars. Each mint's output has a distinctive "look" to it in Mint condition. The techniques of striking varied slilghtly and it shows in the way the luster skips and dances around the surface of the coin. Carson City is noted for its heavy mint frost (PCGS # 7086) .

1880-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Light grey in color with excellent contrast. A blazing beauty of a deep mirror O-mint coin! The satiny devices are alight with bright volatile frosted luster that looks as though it would like nothing better than to explode with a loud bang. Against this reside smooth mirrors that are almost devoid of marks. Well struck for the date, as well, and easily matching or surpassing the few others in this remarkable grade. (For the most part, 1880-O silver dollars were struck from lustrous, not prooflike dies. We can only suppose this is an early strike from new dies, which tend to be prooflike for the first 50 or 100 impressions before leaving the reflective quality behind.) Pop 40; 1 better in 65 DMPL (PCGS # 97115) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

1881 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 65 Cameo. Only 984 pieces minted. Outstanding white on black deep cameo contrast throws off outstanding eye appeal. Brilliant without the least toning color all areas display full reflectiveness. It goes without saying the entire coin is sharply struck. Full definition on the eagle's wings and breast, similar razor-edge detail in the hair and curls, the cap and vegetable matter that Morgan used as sort of a garland atop Liberty's head. This magnificently preserved Gem is worthy of the finest collection of Proof Morgan dollars, and would also be an exemplary contribution to a Proof silver Type set. Pop 12; 32 finer (PCGS # 7316) .
