[Animators] Mel Blanc, Bill Hanna, & Joe Barbera. Group of thirteen signed items, twelve of them cards. Mel Blanc, who was the voice of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, the Road Runner, Sylvester the Cat, Woody Woodpecker, Daffy Duck, and many other beloved cartoon characters, signed three cards plus a 7 x 3¾ in. image of himself recording the voice of one of his characters (this is inscribed "Hi Harry!"). Joe Barbera signed eight colorful cards and Bill Hanna signed one. The two men co-founded Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc., creating more than 1,000 cartoon characters and popular shows such as The Smurfs, The Jetsons, The Huckleberry Hound Show, Josie and the Pussycats, Quick Draw McGraw, and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? All fine.

Thomas Nast Card Signed "Th: Nast. March-14-1878"; Norman Rockwell Photo Postcard Signed and Inscribed, "My best wishes to Harry Sparks, sincerely Norman Rockwell" and a business card signed on verso; Leroy Neiman 8 x 5 in. paper with Autograph Note Signed: "I don't have a card. this is a sheet of memo stationery a printer sends me. LeRoy Neiman '86." Overall fine.

[Cartoonists] Group of 60 Signed Cards, Most With Original Drawings. Only six of the cards do not have an original drawing, some of which are of comic characters for which the artist was known, such as Mort Walker's Beetle Bailey, Jack Elrod's Mark Trail, Jerry Dumas' Sam and Silo, Ron Ferdinand's Hank Ketcham, Tony Di Preta's Rex Morgan, M.D., Guy Gilchrist's Nancy, George Wildman's Popeye, and Sheldon Moldoff's Batman (Moldoff was an uncredited collaborator). Several sketches are political in nature, with several of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Artists not already mentioned include Robert Arail, Glenn Bernhardt, Bud Blake, Steve, Breen (2), Frank Cammeo, Art Carney, Conrad, Chon Day, John Deering (2), Cathy Guisewite, Stan Goldberg, Jerry Holbert (2), Arte Johnson, Bill Keane, Ted Key, Fred Laswell (2), Dick Locher, Doug Marletta, Russel Meyers, Jim Morin, Michael Ramirez, Chip Sanson, Bill Schorr (2), Gary Trudeau (2), Morrie Turner, Jim Unger, Fred Wagner, Tom Wilson, and Dean Young. Jerry Orbach, the actor, contributed two signed cards with sketches and a couple of names are not legible. All fine.

[Cartoonists] Schultz, Caniff, Gould, Capp & Berry. Group of ten signed items, four of them personalized for Salvation Army bandsman Harry Sparks and one for Division Commander David Riley. Milton Caniff sent an Autograph Note Signed in 1975, an Autograph Letter Signed (with original envelope) and an original sketch, both dated 1987; Chester Gould sent an original drawing of Dick Tracy and a card with a printed image, both inscribed and signed, one in 1979 and one in 1980; Charles Schultz signed a 3 x 5 in. card (Number One Snoopy Place return address and image of Snoopy on his doghouse were cut from the envelope and glued to back of card); large Al Capp signature on 2 x 3½ in. paper; and Jim Berry 2 x 3½ in. card signed with a head sketch. Also, two 2 x 3½ in. cards signed by caricaturist Al Hershfeld. All fine.

Cox, Kenyon (1856-1919) American painter, figural compositions. Two Autograph Letters Signed, total of 3½ pp, 6½ x 5 in., Windsor, Vermont, 1913 Aug. 25 and 30. Very fine. To Louis Ettlinger at the American Lithographic Company, first asking permission to have Homer Winslow's painting "Hound & Hunter" reproduced for Cox's book on Homer ("I have tried to analyze Homer's art, its strength & weakness…."), then thanking Ettlinger for having complied. Transmittal envelopes addressed in Cox's hand.

  Gibson, Charles Dana (1857-1944) Illustrator, creator of the "Gibson Girl. Five items: Two Autograph Letters Signed, one Document Signed, one Sentiment Signed (all "C.D. Gibson"), and one photo postcard. A 1927 letter thanks his correspondent for mentioning Gibson in his book; a 1942 letter thanks Mr. Jeffers for the assurance that 75 isn't old; an undated personal information sheet for The Art League Publishing Co. is filled out by Gibson; and a salutation and signature are on a 4"x5¾" piece of stationery with Gibson's address. All fine.

Fine; light toning. To an unidentified man who wants to buy a painting from Leitch. In part: "The little drawing you like in 'The Academy' was drawn as a present to my friend David Roberts…I was in a small degree pleased with it myself….allow me to make a duplicate…".

Moses, Grandma (Anna Mary Robertson Moses) (1860-1961) American painter who took up painting in her 70s and gained fame for her primitive paintings, primarily depicting rural scenes of the 19th and 20th centuries. Autograph Letter Signed, 2pp, on puppy-dog note paper, 4½"x4" (Eagle Bridge, NY) (1947) Sept. 15. To Mrs. Ruth London, in part: "have just received the Express receipt, as the agent has been away…I have not been so well [she was 87 years old], but feel fine this morning, so sorry that the glass got broaking [sic] as I packed them my self and thought they sould ride to Jerryco…." With holograph transmittal envelope.

Poynter (1836-1919, British painter; president of the Royal Academy) writes to Miss Kingsley, explaining that he is leaving "to paint a portrait in the country…." With an Autograph Letter Signed "D Wilkie," 1p, 5½ x 3¾ in., 24 S. Phillimon Place, Wed. eve. Wilkie (1785-1841, British genre painter, portrait artist) writes to "Macdonald" regarding a box that is being made for Wilkie. Both fine.
