Lot 1743		Before Coinage. Ancient Judean Scale Weight. 8th to 6th centuries BCE, Shekel. Domed limestone engraved with the "topless-8" shekel symbol followed by "I" on top. Lot 1745		Before Coinage. Ancient Jewish Scale Weight. 8th to 6th centuries BCE, Beqa (1/2 Shekel). Domed limestone engraved bet-kopf-ayin on top. The beqa was the annual tax for each adult male: "A beqa a head, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary" (Exodus 38:26). A choice example with very clear denomination.
