Peace Dollars

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1289
1921 Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. Lovely rich golden toning on both sides. A lustrous example of this First Year issue, and of major importance to Silver Dollar collecting because it is struck in high relief, unlike the later 1922-35 issues (PCGS # 7356) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.

Lot 1290
1921 Peace Dollar. NGC graded MS-64. All white. A luminous example of optimum quality for the grade: The luster is unbeatable, smooth with typical 1921 Peace-dollar satiny elegance, while the strike is nearly full, being quite crisp in most places including almost all hair waves. A one-year Type. The full brilliance intensifies the beauty all the more.
Estimated Value $600 - 650.

Lot 1296
1923-D Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66 CAC Approved. Cascading bright silver-white somersaulting luster radiates on both sides of this cleanly untoned example. Far in advance as the luster goes, so too are the designs: Fully struck in all areas with pinpoint detailing on the hair and eagle. Strikingly, the 1923-D is quite elusive in this grade, commanding a premium over other D-mint dates. Pop 71; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7361) .
Estimated Value $3,700 - 3,800.

Lot 1298
1926-D Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66 CAC Approved. A nice white coin. Without doubt the most visually stunning feature of this coin is its bright, frosted mint luster. Full swirling luster on both sides, in fact. Fortunately for the strike, it, like the luster, is outstanding. 1926-D is noted for sharp strikes and this is a well-struck example with details aplenty. There are no bothersome abrasions or points of wear. Pop 168; 8 finer in 67. (PCGS # 7368) .
Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,800.

Lot 1299
1926-S Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Fully white coin. The surfaces are sleek and glowing with a healthy silver color. There is no toning. There are no spots. True to its MS66 heritage, it is a stunner! We leave behind the luster and move along to the devices. Even the most delicate detail seen on this coin shows it was made with uncommon exactness for a San Francisco Mint issue. Pop 65; 2 finer in 67. (PCGS # 7369) .
Estimated Value $3,600 - 3,800.

Lot 1300
1927 Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. A hint of golden tone. From center to periphery the glare of luminous silvery luster glows under the faint overlay of color. Next up, a word about the strike: The pressure transmitted from the die to the blank reveals itself in sharp rays on both sides, sharp hair curls, and complete feather definition on the top wing (which on some branch mint issues, is often a sore spot when it comes to clear details). A handsome coin. Pop 246; 5 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7370) .
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,500.

Lot 1301
1927-D Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. A wonderful gem white coin. Unrivaled in terms of exterior preservation for a coin in this grade, both sides are well frosted and for all intents and purposes so silvery bright as to require tinted glasses to study under a strong light. In such circumstances, the luster cannot stand alone. Desirable also is to see that this coin is struck with meticulous care by the dies. Especially bold strike on the hair waves and eagle's wing feathers. Pop 147; 9 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7371) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.

1928-S Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. A blast white sparkling mint beauty. With a blend of excellent (but not quite 100% full) detail at centers and surface condition pointing to careful preservation by its former owners in the space of the last 80 years, this choice Peace dollar should fulfill the needs of just about any serious buyer of the series.Pop 1537; 47 finer (PCGS # 7374) .

1934 Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. A nice white coin. This bright specimen radiates mint glow on silver surfaces with nothing to censor it from its Gem '66 grade. One tiny graze in the frost by Liberty's forehead. That covers the luster. It appears to us that all minute detail is fully evident on this bold 1934 P-mint release. The date is known for its sharp design and clarity of detail in the hair and eagle's virtually mark-free wing, and it shows here. Pop 128; 3 finer in 67. (PCGS # 7375) .

Lot 1305
1934-S Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. Popular key date. A nice frosty white coin. Both sides put on view the distinctive "look" for this scarce S-mint delivery: smoothly frosted surfaces, rolling cartwheel effects, and boldly original devices. There is nothing timid about this Gem! Among the rest of the characteristics, the coin displays clear-cut devices including full hair waves and rays from the crown, all of which ascribe to it having been giving a full strike by the dies.

In 1934, the year of this silver dollar, the U.S. government began an inflationary program of money creation in the hopes this would lift the economy out of the doldrums. If one checks the mintage figures for all denominations from 1934-on the jump in production is apparent at once. $5 and $10 silver certificates were also produced bearing the 1934 Series date as well (followed by 1935 Series $1 bills) -- their backing being these silver dollars which, for the most part, remained with the Treasury as security for the paper notes. Many silver dollars were later melted. Of all of the 1934-35 strikes of Peace dollars, 1934-S is the most famous. It's fame rests squarely on the shoulders of its low mintage: 1,011,000. Pop 174; 23 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7377) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
