Gold Cup - 20th Century Persia. 76.6 grams of gold, 18K or better. The cup is 1 7/8 in. high; the diameter across the top is 2 1/8 in., and 1½ in. across the bottom. Hallmark on bottom appears to read "ZOA9TAE" with inverted "229." An agricultural scene with oxen is engraved in high relief.

Victorian Antique Portable Writing Desk. Burlwood with brass embellishments and a brass nameplate that was never engraved. Measurements are 9 in. tall x 20½ in. wide x 12 in. deep. The box opens up to reveal a green felt covered writing surface which folds out and has storage below for papers/writing materials, and three nanrrow drawers (pulls are gone). Just above the desk portion are five compartments, four small and one for pens, as well as a narrow compartment which runs the width of the desk and holds a 19 in. (¾ in. in diameter) polished stick. The inside of the top of the desk, held with a brass fastener, lets down to two accordion-type files. Keys are missing, there is a dent across the top of the desk, and there are a few scuffs here and there. The desk, weighing 20 lbs, 4.5 oz., is from the days when a gentleman had valets and porters to worry about getting about with such a heavy item.

Meerschaum Pipe. Approximately 2½ in. high and 8 in. long. Round bowl set in a design with a Chinese appearance. The mouthpiece is curved. Sherlock Holmes is often associated with a Meerschaum pipe because the actor William Gillette, who appeared on stage as Holmes over 1300 times between 1899 and 1932, used a Meerschaum pipe. Meerschaum deposits are found only in central Turkey. Very attractive.

Archaic White Jade, the Mother and Sun Dragon, 220-206 BC, Hang Dynasty. 4 5/8 x 3 in., a very nice sitting piece that came out from the ground, ossification of the surface area with mud. The Mother Dragon has a Dragon's head and Fish's body, and the Dragon of the Sun has a body like a snake, very well carved. It is typical jade style of the Hang Dynasty. Also brings Harmony for the family.

Artful Ivory Carvings, plus Netsukes. China, Japan and India, c. 1920's-70's. The largest two, and the oldest, are Chinese and mounted on wood bases. Carved from a curved tusk tip, a finely crafted sage, or royal figure, holding a ruyi scepter. Ivory of mellow warm tone, with black shading to the deeply carved areas, to enhance the modeled details. Also a delicate woman in finely draped raiments, perhaps the immortal He Xian Gu, holding a large flower and a staff with flowers. Ivory darkly toned, with a number of faint age cracks, and slight losses to the flowers. Along with these, are nine small figures of Japanese myth and culture, including two Buddhas, Daikoku, and others. Two are carved as netsukes. The rest are animal carvings from India, plus a napkin ring showing the Taj Mahal. Plus two ivory scrap pieces which can be fashioned into other carvings. Tallest piece: 9 in. Inspection suggested. Lot of 16 items.
