1874 Trade Dollar. NGC graded Proof 64. Gorgeous pastel and rainbow iridescent toning on both sides. Lustrous frosted relief on the eagle and seated figure of Liberty with mirror-like depth in the reflective fields. Both are distinguishing features of the well made Proofs. Razor-sharp strike. A truly attractive Proof 64 specimen of a fashionable Type from an era when the U.S. government hoped to influence international trade with Asia by means of this specially designed Trade dollar. Only 700 Proof struck. Pop 49; 25 finer with 17 in 65, 6 in 66, 2 in 67 (PCGS # 7054) .

Lot 973
1874-S Trade Dollar. NGC graded MS-62. Well struck and attractive. A hint of light toning on both sides. What a splendid display of choice frostiness of the best possible quality, a Trade dollar whose spot-free surfaces play host to robust detail in the main devices.

Trade dollars had a short unhappy existence, having been produced only in the years 1873-83 (with two clandestine mintings dated 1884 and 1885 to top off this controversial series) (PCGS # 7036) .
Estimated Value $950 - 1,000.

Lot 974
1875 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 63 Benson. Delicately toned. This piece displays attractive frosted color over the abrasion-free devices, surrounded by mirror pools of reflectiveness. Of course, collectors seeing the photos understand this Proof Trade Dollar is nicely struck for the date, best of all entirely so. Certainly a coin that gets proper mention where choiceness of design is almost impossible to attain. Only 700 struck. Pop 61; 75 finer (PCGS # 7055) .
Estimated Value $2,600 - 2,700.

Lot 975
1875-S Trade Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. A frosty mint beauty with delicate golden borders. This piece displays beaming snow-white color outside of the peripheral color over the mainly abrasion-free surfaces. We note one small scuff in the frost at Liberty's coronet. Unlike the general run of Trade Dollars of this caliber, the strike is thoroughly convincing in all places, even where some weakness is usually found at the high points of the eagle's wing and one leg. Definitely a Premium Quality coin for the grade. Pop 178; 33 finer (PCGS # 7039) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.

Lot 979
1880 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. Nice even toning. 1,987 minted. While Mint State examples are occasionally available through the years 1873 to 1878, Proofs are elusive in the later Trade Dollar series (1879 to 1883). This is a sleek toned survivor that is indicative of an even higher grade. The surface ranges from steel-blue to dusky purple iridescence, evenly matched on both sides. Pop 154; 87 finer; 58 in 65; 26 in 66; 3 in 67. (PCGS # 7060) .
