Lot 843
1802 Draped Bust Half Dollar. . O-101. PCGS graded EF-45. CAC Approved. A very pleasing example, well struck with medium antique toning o both sides. A total of 29,890 were struck. Production in 1802 of 29,890 was completed using a single obverse die and a single reverse die which was first placed into use in 1802 (reverse B). Mint State specimens are quite rare, however the availability of lower circulated specimens has designated this single variety as only scarce. The Parsley Condition Census is 58-45-45-45-40, putting this squarely in the middle of the coveted list. Pop 12; 20 finer (PCGS # 6065) .

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Pointed 6, stem through claw. PCGS graded MS-62 CAC Approved. In PCGS holder 11785647. Nice and frosty with the reverse softly struck near the eagle's head. The 1806 halves come in seven major varieties, including two overdates (6-over-5 and 6-over-inverted-6), three with a knobbed 6 in the date and two with a pointed 6. By far the rarest is the knobbed-6 variety on which the stem of the olive branch doesn't extend through the eagle's claw. Despite their relatively high mintage, few 1806 draped bust, heraldic eagle half dollars were preserved in mint condition. Pop 1; none finer for the variety at PCGS. (PCGS # 39329) .

The first obverse star is high relative to the curl and the branch stem is long; these identify this Pointed 6, Stem die marriage. There is a faint die crack through TED, continuing across the wingtip and on to STATES.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.

A resplendent solidly graded About Uncirculated with highly correlated luster and natural patina plus almost ostentatious eye appeal. Lot 849
1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Pointed 6, stem not through claw. . No stem through claw, O-109. NGC graded AU-58. Delightful original luster spreads smoothly underneath the well-saturatedtoned surfaces of this attractively About Uncirculated specimen. A blend of shades or original "antique silver" can be seen on both sides including touches of golden heather and brown around and within some of the devices. The strike is nowhere spongy (unlike many 1806 halves in which weak strikes occur) and the design elements are clearly delineated including all hair curls and the folds in Liberty's drapery. Full horizontal shield lines and full vertical stipes on the reverse confirm the sharp detail. This is the unusual die making error in which the olive branch's stem was omitted. In those early days at the First United States Mint, many of the individual elements in the design had to be added separately, such as date numbers, stars on both sides, the clouds, letters in the legends, and, it seems, the stem on the branch.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Pointed 6, stem not through claw. . O-109, the only no stem occurrence. PCGS graded AU-55. Lovely green and gold toning. A munificent strike for such an early bust half dollar, as well as freedom from the usual clash heavy marks typical for this issue where insufficient die pressure occurs all too often. We see a faint ghosting outside the bust near the 13th star and around the date where the faintest clash appears. Choice appearing AU 1806 half dollars are few and far between. And that is why this is a coin to jump at before it's sale is history. Pop 16; 37 finer (PCGS # 6073) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.
