Lot 275
1809 C-1 R4. About Good-3. Rather glossy dark steel brown with traces of lighter chocolate in protected areas thanks to an old cleaning. No corrosion or verdigris. There are two small nicks above the head and a few more tiny marks scattered over both sides, but basically this is just a well worn example. MDS, Manley state 2.0.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.

Lot 276
1809 C-3 R1 Double Struck. Good-4. Glossy chocolate and dark steel brown. No defects other than a couple small nicks inside the wreath. Boldly double struck. The initial strike was properly centered but the struck planchet failed to eject completely and a second strike occurred 80% off center to K-4. Evidence of the second strike is boldly displayed on the reverse. A neat mint error.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.

1809 C-6 R1. MS-60. Lustrous chocolate and steel brown with faint hints of underlying very faded mint color peeking through on the reverse. The only defects are a dull nick on the chin and a thin one under star 5. Excellent eye appeal. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS63BN (PCGS label included).
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.

Lot 278
1811 C-1 R5 4-Star Cud. EF-40. Sharper by 5 points with traces of extremely faint roughness on both sides, mostly confined to the highpoints and devices. No verdigris or contact marks, and the roughness is so faint it is difficult to see even with a glass. The only mark is a dull depression in the planchet right of the bottom of the D in UNITED, probably from a pre-striking planchet void that didn't strike out since it was opposite the big cud on the obverse. Frosty olive and chocolate, darker on the highpoints and lighter in the fields and protected areas. Terminal die state, Manley state 5.0, with a large cud break at stars 1-4. The is the Manley plate coin for the die state and one of the finest known with the 4-star cud.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

1825 C-1 R3. EF-45. Sharper but lightly cleaned and retoned glossy reddish olive and chocolate with lighter golden brown toning on the devices. There are traces of an old fingerprint in the field before the portrait and a tick or two on each side, none distracting. Very rare EDS, Manley state 1.0, with an uncracked obverse. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective on both sides.

LDS, Manley state 3.0, with the reverse rotated 160 degrees CCW from a normal head-to-foot die orientation. EAC grade VF35 with excellent eye appeal for that grade.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.

Lot 281
1825 C-2 R1. AU-50. Attractive frosty chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning in protected areas of the obverse and hints of light bluish steel overtone on both sides. Satiny mint luster shows through the toning in protected areas, especially on the reverse where the eye appeal is closer to mint state. No defects, only very light wear on the highpoints. Nicely struck EDS, Manley state 1.0.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.

Lot 282
1826 C-1 R1. EF-45. Sharpness AU50 or slightly better but lightly cleaned and retoned glossy light olive brown with traces of very faded red showing through in protected areas. No corrosion or notable marks. MDS, Manley state 3.0, with the reverse rotated 70 degrees CCW. There is a large, shallow low spot (caused by debris on the die) that covers much of the face and neck and similar low spots that blunt the strike on the left side of the wreath and the leaves under RI in AMERICA. The first seen with these significant low spots.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.

Lot 283
1826 C-2 R3+. AU-50. Mint state sharpness but lightly cleaned and retoned glossy medium reddish brown and chocolate. There are a few tiny ticks on the cheek and a splash of slightly darker olive brown toning at the base of the T in LIBERTY, plus extremely faint hairlines on both sides from the earlier cleaning. Sharply struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. The is the Cohen plate coin for the variety in the second edition of his half cent book, and it comes with an impressive provenance, both testimony to the excellent eye appeal of this piece in spite of the old cleaning.
Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,500.

1826 C-2 R3+. EF-40. Five points sharper but there are a few fine scratches under CEN, mostly hidden under the line below CENT. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0.

1828 C-2 R1 12-Star Obverse Double Struck. VF-35. Very attractive medium brown and light chocolate with frosty bluish steel brown showing in protected areas. No defects other than some tiny contact marks scattered about both sides, none notable and all consistent with the grade. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. Double struck. Both impressions were properly centered on the planchet but the second was rotated about 5 degrees relative to the first. The doubling is obvious along the profile from the lips to the forehead where the offset approaches a full millimeter. The reverse shows doubling clearest in the dentils at the top.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.

1828 C-2 R1 12-Star Obverse Misaligned Obverse. VF-35. Frosty tan and light steel brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. No notable defects. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The obverse is obviously misaligned to K-4.5 while the reverse is properly centered on the planchet. One other example has been recorded with the dies similarly misaligned. It was a VG7 example offered in the 2005 EAC Sale. Obviously pieces with the dies misaligned are quite rare, and this example may be the finest known of that small group.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
