Lot 3882
1926-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-64. Lovely golden toning on both sides. A popular key date. Among the more poorly defined issues in the series, this key 1926-S issue breaks that trend for the most part and maintains uncommon detail on all but the highest parts of the design. Even the normal softness on the bison's shoulder is nearly absent. Both sides are graced by original toning over nickel-gray luster.Pop 125; 11 finer in 65 (PCGS # 3959) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 16,000.

Lot 3886
1927-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-64. The surfaces are nearly flawless barring a few almost microscopic marks on the neck by the hair braid. Much more lustrous for the issue than is usually seen, the nickel gray surfaces are nearly gem with some fresh patina accenting the color. A munificent strike for this often poorly made issue, as well as freedom from the usual clash marks and flyspecks typical for this semi-key date. This is a coin to jump at before it's sale is history. Housed in an old green holder. Magnificent rainbow toning on both sides. Pop 298; 20 finer in 65 (PCGS # 3962) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.

Lot 3906
1937-D Buffalo Nickel. 3 legs. NGC graded MS-65. Well struck and light gold toning. Outstanding Gem BU. A satiny matte-like gem with resilient underlying luster and brilliant highlights. From center to periphery, the coin is generally well struck with just a hint of weakness at the bison's shoulder.

This intriguing die-polishing error was the first of its kind to come to the notice of collectors. Discovered soon after its issue, 1937-D 3-leg nickels were advertised for sale in an advertisement in The Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine as early as 1937-38. The variety was caused by polishing of the dies to remove clash marks. Die clash occurs whenever the feeder mechanism of a coin press fails to deliver a planchet, the dies strike one another, and each receives an impression of the opposing die. This disfigurement, when noticed, usually results in the replacement of both dies. In the case of the 1937-D 3-leg nickel, however, the choice was made to go with a more expedient solution: removal, repolish, reuse. Very few Gem Uncirculated 65-quality examples are known. (For a more detailed account of this popular variety, see David W. Lange's The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels.) Pop 47; 17 finer; 16 in 66; 1 in 67 Star.

Lot 3908
1937-D Buffalo Nickel. 3 legs. PCGS graded MS-63. Toned on both sides. A popular variety. Lightly toned, yet basically nickel-gray in appearance, typical color for this intriguing mint error when offered in Mint condition. The few wispy abrasions do not detract from the overall pleasing eye appeal of this choice MS63 example. The 1937-D 3-Legs variety was discovered almost immediately in 1937. Articles about it and advertisements for 3-Legs buffalo nickels appeared in "The Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine" in 1937-1938. Ever since, this interesting error has been collected as an integral part of a complete 1913-38 set (PCGS # 3982) .
Estimated Value $3,300 - 3,600.

Lot 3909
1937-D Buffalo Nickel. 3 legs. NGC graded MS-62. Mostly untoned. FS-020.2. A lustrous specimen with natural color over both sides. Nearly fully struck, or as full as 3-Leg '37-D nickels are found due to the worn dies, just a hint of limitation in the detail at the bison's shoulder. The moth-eaten look of the hind leg is one of the features of this unusual variety (PCGS # 3982) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600.
