Lot 3226
Thailand. Piedfort 2 Baht, 1860. Similar design to Y-12, but unlisted as a piedfort or pattern in KM. It is however listed and illustrated in "Kasap Thai" (Thai Money), by Dr. Sataporn Hongjindakul and Surachai Samitasin, published 1999. This example is 33mm in diameter, 4.2mm thick with a weight of 44.5 grams, the aproximate weight of a 3 Baht coin and possibly a pattern for that denomination or it could be a presentation strike. A sharply impressed chakra is seen above the elephant's back and in the upper right quadrant of the obverse.
A handsome and well struck specimen in Choice Near Mint State condition with handsome old cabinet toning. We believe that this may be the first public offering of this great rarity in the Thai series. NGC graded AU-58.
