Great Britain Pt. 3

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 423
Great Britain. Sovereign, 1822. S-3800; Fr-376; KM-682. George IV, 1820-1830 Laureate Head left. Reverse: St George and the Dragon, date below. Reeded edge. Sharply struck, frosty, and most pleasing. Very difficult to locate without flaws or above EF grade. This has bright luster, verging to somewhat prooflike on the obverse. Exceptional quality, and super rare in this grade. At the very top of the condition census for this date, virtually alone as an MS-65 among graded pieces. Worth a huge price. NGC graded MS-65.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
Ex Dr Jacob Y. Terner Collection.

Lot 424
Great Britain. Crown, 1822. S-3805; KM-680.2. George IV, 1760-1820. Laureate Head left. Reverse: St George and the Dragon. TERTIO edge. Extraordinarily sharp strike, almost medallic in quality, with exceptionally clean fields shimmering with cartwheel luster under superb old toning -- deeply iridescent, ranging from russet gray to steel blue and rose, with hints of green. The finest example seen of this date (far, far rarer than the 1821 Secundo issue) in many, many years. Nonpareil in this cataloguer's experience, and underestimated in numerical terms. NGC graded MS-66.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
Ex Dr Jacob Y. Terner Collection.

Lot 425
Great Britain. 2 Pounds, 1823. S-3798; Fr-375; KM-690. George IV, 1820-1830. Bare Head left. Reverse: St George and the Dragon, date below. Lettered Edge in high relief. This is one of the finest examples of this coinage ever seen, and one of the prettiest imaginable, as it gleams with a marvelous satin sheen and the metal is beautifully toned a light rosy gold. The king's portrait is in sharp cameo contrast to the surrounding fields. As well, it is so deeply prooflike that, at first glance, it appears to be a Proof. Also, the surfaces are almost perfect. Even the edge gleams with an intense brilliance. This is certainly among the finest known. NGC graded MS-66.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.
Ex Mortimer Hammel sale, Stack's, 1982, Lot 363, listed there as "Superb" (it realized an awesome $4,000 at that time). Ex Dr Jacob Y. Terner Collection.
