Lot 838
[Apple Computer, Inc.] Original Apple Computer Sign & Wozniak's Tool Box. Original Apple Computer sign, 100½" x 22½" x 1½". A multi-colored apple with a bite missing is at left of the black lettering on a white background, surrounded by a wooden frame. When Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak developed the Apple computer and went to their first trade show, circa 1976, they had a light box built with this sign as the lens with back lights. When Tom Liggett came on board as first facilities engineer two years later, he was told to throw away this sign; he asked if he could have it and took it home. When Jobs ordered a fancy sign with brass letters in 1978, he was told that it would be a long time until it was ready. Tom suggested making a sign out of the old Apple sign and constructed it himself. It remained the banner sign for the next three buildings over several years, including the corporate headquarters at 10260 Bandley, Cupertino, California. Even though the new sign arrived, this sign moved from building to building and became the company's icon. About three years after he started work at Apple, Tom found the sign in the dumpster and, once again, asked and received permission to take it home.

With Steve Wozniak's tool box, c. 1976-77, 13" x 4¾" x 6", blue metal with some rust and dings; "Steve Wozniak" is punched on yellow tape attached to the top. When the Apple computer was being developed, all of the engineers were given a tool box. When Steve didn't want his anymore, he gave it to Tom Liggett. Two historic Apple items. The buyer is responsible for arranging pick-up or shipping of these items.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 4,000.
