1937, May 10 - Engorra Rifle Range Flown Covers. Lot of two similar covers issued by the Government and used without any rocket stamps. One cover is cancelled on 10 May 1937 (Ex. the Jesse T. Ellington collection). The other cover has a similar cancel on the front, but was franked again on the reverse with the stamps cancelled on 12 May 1937 (Coronation Day). The latter cover is signed by rocketeer A. H. Young and one other on the face. An attractive pair. 500 covers of both types were flown. E-Z No. 11C1, C11 note, 1996 cat. = $100.

1928 June 10, Graz, Flown Rocket Cover. Used with a triangular orange/black rocket stamp. This was a test flight for subsequent rocket trials. This was a balloon flight that carried the first mail sent into the stratosphere. At about 16km, rocketeer Schmiedl ignited a small rocket automatically. This was probably the first rocket flown into the stratosphere. Covers are known with either rectangular or triangular rocket stamps. Only 100 flown. E-Z No. 1C1, 1996 cat. = $600.

1931 October 28, Glazerfeld, Unflown Rocket Card. This unflown mint card has both violet flight cachets as well as a violet letter "F" in the lower left corner. Only 7 examples of this card were actually flown and 77 were unflown. The flown cards were franked with Austrian postage. A small crease in the upper right hand corner should not detract. The other card has a similar black handstamped flight cachet and was flown on rocket FS 1-4. Only 100 cards flown - which were distributed mainly to dignitaries. Unlisted in E-Z catalog.

This modern flown cover has a multicolor printed cachet honoring Chinese Taiconaut Yang Liwei and a blue handstamped flight cachet at the top center of the cover. The cover was launched by Austrian back-up cosmonaut Clemens Lothaller. This is the first cover from this flight we have seen. Unlisted in the E-Z catalog.
