"GEMINI_AGENA" SPACECRAFT MODEL (18x4") This striking silver and white, three-part Lockheed contractor's model is mounted on a clear lucite/wooden base (18x5") with a metal descriptive plate that reads: "NASA Gemini-Agena Spacecraft / Lockheed Missiles & Space Company". The Gemini capsule part of the model is in excellent shape. This is the first example of this model we have seen so, despite its faults, we strongly recommend someone giving it a good home.
Estimated Value $150 - 250.

Apollo 17, "Lunar Rock #77017" Exact Model (6x3x5") Apollo 17 lunar rock #77017 was collected by astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan in the highland area of Taurus-Littrow and is composed of Brecciated olivine gabbro. Weighing over 1700 grams, it is one of the largest rock samples returned from the moon.
The lunar samples are kept in pristine conditions at the Johnson Space Center's Lunar Receiving Laboratory in Houston. The samples are vacuum packed on the lunar surface and are kept biologically pure for chemical and microphysical analysis.
The samples are a national treasure and are held in vaults and examined by scientists via glove cabinets. The samples come in contact with only three materials - stainless steel, aluminum and Teflon. These materials are sterilized prior to being introduced into the cabinets. The atmosphere in the cabinets is pure nitrogen and is at a small positive pressure to prevent outside air contaminating the samples.
Models such as this one are faithful replicas so that the scientists can establish their examination procedures prior to working on an actual sample. These models are made by forming an aluminum foil mold around the sample. The mold is then removed from the cabinet via an air lock and used to make a phenolic casting. The casting is painted by an artist so that it closely resembles the actual rock.
Because the process is so exacting and utilizes the actual returned rock, very few of these models were actually made.
Lunar rock model #77017 was presented to the consignor for his service as the Manager of the Lunar Receiving Laboratory for the Apollo 14 and 15 missions. After the Apollo 15 mission, the consignor became Ass't. Director of Space Sciences. The model has been in his possession ever since 1972.

The model is mounted in a lucite/wood display case (9x7x13") with a descriptive plaque that reads: "Peter J. Armitage / Manager Lunar Receiving Laboratory / NASA/JSC / Lunar Rock Model 77017".
Estimated Value $7,500 - 9,500.
Ex. the NASA Senior Executive Peter Armitage collection.

This model was designed as an Atmospheric Science Facility by the company and would have taken up almost the entire payload bay of the Shuttle. For many years, this model was on display in the office of the consignor who was the Asst. Director for Space and Life Sciences at JSC.
Possibly unique and an extremely important model to any collector.
