Lot 608
Aviation, 2005, Steve Fossett UNFLOWN "Round-the-World Flight Cover (No. 7/12). This unflown cover is franked by US postage and one of Fossett's "37c Private Post" "Round-the-World" Private Post stamps. Because the private stamps were not allowed to be used on the 500 official flown covers (these 12 covers were removed prior to the flight), these 12 covers are the only ones to bear this private post label. A similair cover sold last year in another sale for about $2,500. Now that Steve Fossett is deceased, demand for this piece will undoubtedly be increased.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,500.

1942-1963, Deke Slayton's Army & Air Force Military Records. This would appear to be Deke's copies of his military records from when he enlisted as a student in the Army until when he transfered from the USAF and was assigned to NASA. There are probably several hundred pages involved. Some of the latter records include mention of some of the other Mercury 7 astronauts. Many of the documents contain original signatures by Slayton and others (military brass). A fascinating look at his transfers, promotions, leaves, special orders and training over the years. Mixed condition, but unique.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500.
