Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2929
1875 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 63. Light golden toning around the edges. Shows somewhat of a cameo effect. Both sides put on view the distinctive "look" for this Proof delivery of 1875: smoothly frosted devices, systematic mirror effects, and boldly made devices. There is nothing timid about this one, either. Having that in mind for the mint originality, we see as well a full, bold transfer from Proof dies to planchet notable everywhere. Only a few scattered (and light) hairlines. 700 Proofs struck. Pop 61: 72 finer. (PCGS # 7055) .
Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,800.
Ex: Benson Collection.

Lot 2935
1878-S Trade Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Lightly toned with semi reflective surfaces. A lustrous Trade dollar with energetic semi-cartwheel, slightly prooflike luster whose pale color seems to want to motivate bidders to increase their bids as though by subtle hypnotism! Nicely struck with just outstanding detail at the head, barring a few weak stars. The stars, especially, can be softly struck on Trade dollars (even the rare Proofs). Pop 67; 35 finer, 17 in 65, 16 in 66, 1 in 67, 1 in 68 (PCGS # 7048) .

Lot 2936
1878-S Trade Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. Subdued golden toning. One small nick in the field by the third star. A choice, lustrous Trade dollar whose highly concentrated satin luster agrees nicely with its solid MS63 grade. Don't mind the few light abrasions in the fields as typically seen for this large silver denomination since this has been taken into consideration by the grading service. Excellent eye-appeal. 1878-S represents the final commercial strike Trade dollar. After this, only Proofs were minted for sale to collectors before the design was finally abolished in 1887. Pop 91; 103 finer (PCGS # 7048) .
Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,900.

Lot 2938
1879 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. Old green holder. A fullt white gem with a nice cameo look. A lock PF65 cameo coin. Well detailed with extraordinary mint sparkle and more than a little frosted whiteness on the devices that is capped off by the careful PCGS grade of 64. A great deal of stress is laid on the strike detail of these Trade dollars since even some Proofs can be poorly made. However, this piece is well struck on all devices, the stars in particular needle-sharp. In the design, Liberty stares before her with a fixed expression as she extends towards the West (meaning, the Far East) an olive branch of peace. She is seated on a bale of cotton, behind which unfolds a sheaf of wheat. At her toes, so close she could tickle them in the surf, is the seashore. At the base of the hay bale, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST while held in her hand is a scroll with LIBERTY inscribed in incuse letters. 1,541 Proofs struck. Pop 123;65 finer; 36 in 65; 22 in 66; 7 in 67. (PCGS # 7059) .

1881 Trade Dollar. NGC graded Proof 62 Cameo. Nice dark blue toning. That sharp design on Proof Trade dollars are what attract collectors; but so too does their low mintage and relative unavailability. After the Mints ceased strike Trade dollars for commerce in 1878, only Proofs were issued from then until 1883. 960 struck and all as Proofs.
