1955 Lincoln Cent. Doubled die obverse. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown. A significant amount of mint red visable on this very chocie specimen. While obtainable with a little perseverance in the Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated grades, the 1955/55 Doubled Die is truly scarce at the choicer levels of Mint State preservation. This piece has only a few small marks on Lincoln's head. Pop 194; 172 finer, 168 in 64, 4 in 65 (PCGS # 2826) .

Lot 1861
1955 Lincoln Cent. Doubled die obverse. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. A pleasant chocolate brown example. Three small nicks on the head. A single obverse die that had by chance rotated between blows from the working hub slipped past quality control at the Mint and ended up in the press. Paired with a correctly made reverse die, this obverse struck an estimated 20,000 to 24,000 Doubled Die Cents one day during the summer of 1955. Their discovery created excitement beyond any seen in American numismatics. Pop 305; 133 finer, 128 in 64, 5 in 65 (PCGS # 2825) .
