  Pair of Early Coppers. Includes a Wright & Bale Hard Times Token in copper, Rulau HT #342, Low-332, Baker-594 grading VF20 net VG8 for light corrosion and an 1807 S-276 large cent in AG3 counterstamped H. WHEELER on the obverse, Brunk W-449. This is the earliest dated large cent known with this counterstamp, and the date is clear. An interesting pair. Lot of 2 coins.

1837 Feuchtwanger Cent Low-120 Rulau HT-268. NGC graded AU-58. Frosty light silvery gray with slightly darker steel toning in protected areas. No defects, only a light touch of friction on the highpoints. Excellent eye appeal. Die combination 6-I. EAC grade AU50.

1837 Feuchtwanger Cent Low-120 Rulau HT-268. NGC graded MS-64. Die combination 6-I, Rarity-1. Lustrous bright silver just starting to mellow to light silvery gray on the reverse. Outstanding eye appeal. Sharply struck and free of any defects. A premium example of this popular Hard Times Token. Listed in the "Redbook" at page 375.

1837. Feuchtwanger. PCGS graded MS-64. Lightly toned. Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger in 1837 petitioned Congress to adopt his German-silver-like metal for the U.S. copper Cent. The petition, supported by Senator Thomas Hart Benton was rejected by mint Director Patterson in 1838. Feuchtwanger published a book on gems in 1872 and died in 1876. Pop 34; 11 finer, 10 in 65, 1 in 66 (PCGS # 20001) .
