Lot 1572		1842 N-6 R1 Large Date. NGC graded MS-63 Brown. Frosty medium steel brown. The surfaces are satiny and attractive. The only marks are a small spot of carbon at the leaf under the C in CENT and a thin vertical nick left of star 12. LDS, die state d (the old N-10), with a small but clear dot near the leaf right of the base of E in ONE. EAC grade MS60. A nice example of this scarce die state. Estimated Value $400 - 600. This cent is nearly gem except for several thin planchet laminations on the reverse, including one over ONE, another at the M in AMERICA, and a chip out of the rim over the O in OF. Lot 1575		1843 N-4 R1 Head of 1842, Reverse of 1844. NGC graded MS-64 Brown. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with traces of mint red showing on the obverse, 5% remaining on the reverse. Satiny and choice except for an obvious splash of very fine black carbon filling the area between the date and first star plus specks of similar carbon over TAT in STATES. M-LDS, die state c. EAC grade MS60. A decent example of this popular "Redbook" variety in spite of the carbon splash. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Estimated Value $750 - 1,250.
