1838 N-1 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. Frosty bluish steel brown with underlying very faded mint color showing through on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is choice except for a speck of carbon inside the 3 in the date and numerous faint specks of dark toning (not carbon) on the reverse. Nicely struck E-MDS with a series of small rim cud breaks over star 7. The repunching on the 1 in the date and the I in UNITED remains clear. EAC grade MS62.

1838 N-16 R5-. VF-25. Slightly sharper but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown, darker in protected areas and slightly lighter on the highpoints. No roughness or marks. Nice eye appeal, and the attribution points are clear. At the lower end of the condition census for this rare die variety.

1839 N-3 R1 Head of 1838. AU-50. Lustrous light olive and chocolate with traces of faded mint red on the reverse. The only defect is a planchet lamination (as struck) right of star 10 down to the dentils at star 11. MDS.

1839 N-9 R2 Silly Head. AU-58. Lustrous light olive brown with darker bluish steel overtones on the obverse. No spots or stains, a tiny rim nick over the O in OF the only notable defect. Great eye appeal, just a hint of rub on the highest points from mint state. MDS with rim cud breaks at the top of the obverse.

1839 N-11 R1 Booby Head. AU-50. Closer to mint state but very lightly cleaned and nicely retoned frosty golden light olive brown with hints of sea-green overtone. A small spot of darker toning on the cheek and another in the field over star 12 are the notable marks. E-MDS.

1839 N-13 R2 Booby Head. NGC graded MS-63 Brown. Frosty steel and chocolate brown with satiny surfaces. No spots or stains. The only marks are a trio of faint hairline scratches at star 6 and microscopic planchet flakes scattered over the obverse. The only notable flakes are on star 12 and at the dentils over star 4. Nicely struck E-MDS. EAC grade net AU58, very close to mint state. The attribution is noted on the NGC label.
