Lot 5191
False Shekels, Lot of 4, c. 19th-20th Century, 26-35mm. Beginning in the late 16th century "coins" appeared with designs inspired by the ancient Jewish Shekel, except that modern Hebrew was used. It is suggested that these originally were made for Jewish ceremonial use, like the Pidyon Haben. This lot includes pieces that may have been made in Europe, England and America. Two of them are made in soft white medal and have abrasions on their surfaces. One has "KENNING" below the chalice, indicating the English manufacturer. Nice starter group for this interesting area of numismatics. 2 of the 4 pieces are pictured. Very Good to Extremely Fine.
