Lot 324
Brandeis, Louis D (1856-1941) Supreme Court Justice (1916-1939) and leader of the American Zionist movement; appointed to the Supreme Court by Woodrow Wilson, he was the first Jewish Supreme Court Justice in United States history. ALS in black ink on Supreme Court stationery, 1p, 8" x 5", Washsington, 1925 Oct. 28. Fine; one small fold split; two hole punches at left margin affect a couple of letters of the text. To a prominent Zionist, Dr. Curt Navratzki, regarding unstated news received and action that Brandeis was taking to follow up on it.

Frankfurter, Felix. ALS on engraved Supreme Court of the United States note card, 3½" x 4½", Washington, D.C. 1959 April 22. To Mrs. Hull, in part: "You were kind to write me about my remarks on Judge Hand's golden anniversary and I much appreciate it…." Fine; small blemish at top edge.

Hughes Supreme Court. PS by Supreme Court Justice Charles E. Hughes, as well as by his eight associate justices: Owen J. Roberts, J.C. McReynolds, Wm. O. Douglas, Stanley Reed, Harlan F. Stone, Felix Frankfurther, Hugo L. Black, and Frank Murphy, 11" x 16¼", n.p., 1940 or 1941 (Frank Murphy joined the Court in 1940 and Chief Justice Hughes retired in 1941). Photo by Harris & Ewing. Some brushing to Hughes' signature and the last five letters of McReynolds' signature are light. Archival repair to lower right corner; one closed tear in blank left margin, just touching the lower left corner of the background; small crease at upper right corner. Light toning and minor marginal soiling, but overall fine.

Rehnquist, William H (1924-2005) Nominated by President Nixon to the Supreme Court in 1971, he served from 1972-2005; from 1986 he was Chief Justice. PS as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, 9" x 6", n.p., n.d. (late 1980s) Very fine. The photo was sent to an advanced Russian class in Watervliet, New York.
