Reverse Shields of England and Ireland conjoined, with date above and legend GOD WITH VS. Mark of value (V Shillings) above shields. Struck from slightly buckled dies. The flan is unusually round and the strike is exceptionally clean, without the typical doubled letters so frequently seen, even on the nicest coins. Dies only slightly rotated. Dark gray surfaces. Most pleasing and very rare. NGC graded AU-53.

Great Britain. Halfcrown, 1658. S.3227A. Oliver Cromwell. Draped bust of the Lord Protector facing left. Reverse Crowned shield and the legend PAX QUAERITUR BELLO (Peace is Sought by War!). Exquisitely toned in shades of deep grey and blue, this spectacular coin, graded MS64, is the Terner specimen. All Cromwell Halfcrowns are now regarded as specimens or limited issue patterns but hardly any have survived in this lofty state of preservation. PCGS graded MS-64.

No mark of value or inner circle. Reverse Cross fleury over square topped shield. An unusually round and evenly struck coin, with no areas of weakness for what is normally a poorly made coin. Struck from slightly rusty dies. Superb profile of the new King, and very rare in this state of preservation. NGC graded AU-50.

Great Britain. Crown, 1663. S.3354; ESC-27A. Charles II. First bust. XV edge. No stops on reverse. A beautifully balanced coin showing very little wear. Slight evidence of roller lines through the top of the King's hair and laurels, as made as the mint during manufacture. A nicely struck coin with few marks of any kind, evidence of die-rust in the fields (London was a very humid place at the time), pleasing medium gray toning with hues of golden green on reverse. Exceptionally fine for this first issue of the classic Charles II crown. In Fine catalogues 500 Pounds while with stops 150 Pounds. For EF with stops Catalogues 4000 Pounds and with No stops EF No estimate is given. NGC graded AU-50.

A most impressive and beautiful example of this distinctive coinage. Scarce and popular issue, but in a grade which makes this a Very Rare coin. NGC graded MS-63.

Great Britain. Halfcrown, 1708. S.3604; ESC-577. Queen Anne. Post-Union reverse, showing the re-arranged insignia of the shield, meant to hallmark the union of Scotland with the other kingdoms. A coin of exquisite eye-appeal, showing booming luster, almost flawless surfaces possessing an unusual sheen, a crisp strike, and vibrant irdiscent toning giving off a rainbow of colors: golden amber, mauve, blue, even some sea-green! Anne's portrait is beautifully detailed, showing each curl of hair in detail. The reverse shield is a study in minting quality, crisp in each quadrant with sharp shields at the outsides and a fully struck radiant sun at the center. For the connoisseur. NGC graded MS-64.

Edge year DECIMO NONO on edge in raised letters. Some of the treasure seized by Admiral Anson during his circuminvigation of the globe 1740-1744, and by other privateers, was used to produce coins which had 'LIMA' below the effigy of the King, to celebrate the expedition's successful harassment of the Spanish colonies. A fascinating piece of history and a high quality crown. Overall, a pretty coin with a lovely deep blue original old tone. NGC graded MS-63.

William IV, 1830-1837, born on 21 August, 1765. This lot consist of Fourpences (3 pieces), threepences (4 pieces), twopences (7 pieces) and pennies (30 pieces). Totalling 68 pences. The coins given to Mrs. Bruce, total number of pences, equaled the age of the monarch. William IV was 68. Housed in a custom velvet case. All attractively toned. Lot of 44 coins.
