1922 Grant Half Dollar, with star. PCGS graded MS-64. Natural toning on both sides. A key date to this series. Only 4,256 made. Well detailed with very choice mint luster for this often dullish release, including broad areas of white frostiness. In the period in which this coin was made, weak strikes predominate on Grant's hair detail and beard. That is why it is a pleasure to report a strike with much better precision only now and then found. A star that appeared on the first issues was later removed, creating a second variety. The star has no particular significance. Laura Gardin Fraser designed both the Grant half dollar and gold dollar. Fraser (1889 - 1966) was an American sculptor and the wife of James Earle Fraser of Buffalo nickel fame. (She was the winner of the 1931 competition to design a new quarter with George Washington on the obverse, although Joseph Flanagan's design was the one adopted.) (PCGS # 9307) .

1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Old green holder. Popular key Type. A touch of light gold toning on both sides, lustrous and very choice. Designs are by Juliette May Fraser (no relation to Laura Gardin Fraser who did the Grant commemorative half dollar and gold dollar). Juliette May Fraser was an American painter, muralist and printmaker. She was born in Honolulu in 1887 and is no doubt the reason the committee picking the coin's design chose her fine rendition of British sea captain James Cook, "Discoverer of Hawaii." Only 10,000 minted (PCGS # 9309) .

1934 Maryland Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Old green holder. Nice light toning. A nice blizzard white tint radiates from this lustrous Gem quality piece. Of course, collectors seeing the photos understand this coin is nicely struck for the date, best of all entirely so, including a sharp nose on Calvert (often found weak and grainy). 1921 Missouri Half Dollar, 2 x 4. PCGS graded MS-64. Old green holder. A hint of light toning on both sides.A lovely, frosty-white example, there are no annoying bagmarks on either side. About as fully struck as these are normally found, with just outstanding detail in the pioneer's cap and hair as well as the shoulder detail. Only 20,053 minted with the 2x4 in the field.   1937-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Well struck with a hint of light toning. In an old green label holder. Ice-cold white color covers the fields of this handsome coin, the ultimate in pristine beauty, and a very attractive Oregon Trail commemorative half dollar. Denver Mint was the only mint that struck Oregons in 1937. It appears that, with reduced coinage requirements, the Treasury Department spread-the-work around the various mints during the Depression to keep everyone occupied, even if at a reduced level. (In 1936, Oregons were struck at Philadelphia and San Francisco only.) Pop 499; 39 finer (PCGS # 9347) .
