1833 N-1 R2. MS-60. Lustrous bluish steel and chocolate with a splash of reddish chocolate toning at stars 8-9 and traces of mint red remaining in protected areas on both sides. A thin struck-through line (caused by a piece of wire or thread on the die) extends from the bust tip to the dentils under star 2. The surfaces are satiny and attractive, but the splash at stars 8-9 and the struck-through line catch the eye. E-MDS.

1833 N-5 R1 Repunched 8. NGC graded MS-64 Brown. The obverse is lustrous bluish steel brown and chocolate while the reverse is lustrous light golden olive and tan. The surfaces are satiny and the only mark is a tiny spot of slightly darker toning touching the bottom center of the line under CENT. Faint peeps of faded mint red are visible in protected areas of the obverse. Nicely struck E-MDS. The repunching on the 8 shows clearly. EAC grade MS60+.

1834 N-4 R2 Large 8 with Small Stars. Double Profile. NGC graded MS-64 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown with 15% of the bright original mint red remaining. The surfaces and eye appeal are choice except for a subtle splash of darker reddish chocolate brown toning at LIB and the coronet tip to star 6, and this area contains microscopic specks of dark greenish verdigris. MDS with die rust evident at UNITED STATES. There is a clear double profile from the coronet tip down to the chin with additional but more delicate doubling on the bust tip. Excellent luster and eye appeal in spite of the small stain. EAC grade net MS62.

Very shallow low spots caused by debris on the die extend from the C in CENT to the left side of the O in ONE (as seen on the Wright plate coin). An important cent, in the lower half of the condition census.

EAC grade VF30, at the lower end of the condition census for the variety.

Frosty steel brown with attractive, satiny surfaces and hints of underlying very faded mint color showing through on the obverse. The only defects are two small spots of darker toning in the dentils below the 37 in the date and a faint fishhook-shaped struck-through line just right of the eye (caused by a piece of debris on the die). Nicely struck E-MDS. The stray N (so called "Accessory N" hidden in the leaves under the N in UNITED) is sharp. EAC grade MS62+ very close to MS63.

The only marks are a faint scuff that barely breaks the frosty luster in the field right of star 4 and another under the right side of the N in CENT. M-LDS with a strong bisecting die crack from the dentils over star 9 to the dentils under the first 8 in the date and a linear cud break along the crack in the curls over the second 8. In addition, there is a clear rim cud break from star 12 extending down nearly to star 13. A beautiful example of a neat die state.

Great eye appeal. The only defects are a faint horizontal hairline scratch off the peak of the 1 and a spot of darker toning in the dentils at that same star. Sharply struck except for a low spot on the curls at the shoulder and minor weakness at the base of the 1 in the date (both caused by debris or grease on the die), and the two low spots keep this cent from a higher grade. E-MDS, die state b. Repunching shows clearly at the bottoms of the 1 & 8 in the date. Tied for CC#8.
