Ex ADM Collection, NAC Sale O (5-13-04), lot 1090. The griffin seen on this helmet is employed on some issues earlier in the series at Heraclea (cf. HN Italy nos. 1366-1368), but is apparantly unknown afterwards. This coin is not thought of as a hybrid, since the wing type on the griffin coins is distinctly different from that seen here. Abundant glistening luster beneath handsome toning. The dies exhibiting wonderful artistry for this mint. Herakles is at once human and accessible, yet clearly projects a regal and godly air. A masterpiece of mature Hellenistic art! Extremely Fine.
