King crowned and in armour, with a sword over his shoulder, galloping right on a richly ornamented horse, date below. Reverse: Long cross fourchee over royal shield. This was indeed the first English silver Crown and the first dated English coin. Edward VI Crowns are extremely rare in this high state of preservation. A beautiful specimen with an attractive old cabinet tone. Struck on a large flan, well centered and with superb detail on the portrait of the King and the ornamental trappings of the horse. NGC graded EF-45.

Great Britain. Sixpence, 1554. S.2505. Philip and Mary, 1554-1558. A handsome coin showing some wear but also the classic failings of die-preparation and flan manufacture of its era. Light abrasions on both sides, a tiny dent in the center of the obverse, letters not fully struck up. The portraits are better than are usually seen, the dies are well aligned, and the overall appearance is superior to most examples, with attractive gray toning. Very rare grade, one the finest specimens on the market in a long time. NGC graded EF-45.
