1872 Shield Nickel. NGC graded Proof 67. Gorgeous light rainbow toning on both sides. Superb swirling prooflike luster rounds out this coin's list of memorable attributes in that department. Lot 923
1882 Shield Nickel. PCGS graded Proof 67 Cameo. Lovely rainbow toning on both sides. The powerfully beautiful, lustrous surfaces are readily appreciable at all angles. This is an important issue among Gem quality type collectors for its stunning display of colors. Far in advance of most in terms of strike, as well, this was stamped by the dies with systematic exactness including (not excepting) the usual weak areas in the center such as the horizontal shield lines (here, razor-sharp) and the leaves (here, showing their central veins). Such beauty in a shield nickel will pass over your heart like the sunlight beaming out of a cloud as it moves across the meadow in the summertime. Pop 13; none finer at PCGS. Only 3,100 Proofs struck (PCGS # 83837) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.
