1856 Biography of Washington - Complete Set Of 45 Journals. A biography of Washington by Rufus Griswold, in subscription journal form, 45 issues, each 10" x 7", each carrying two engraved plates (90 total) covering the life of Washington and a portrait gallery of the Revolution, 604 pages, plus an analytical index. Published by Virtue, Emmins & Co., New York, 1856. Overall very good; some dark toning to covers. Includes portraits of Washington by Peale, Trumbull, and Stuart, as well as portraits of all the best known American and British generals, and dozens of historic scenes and incidents in the life of Washingrton. All but two issues have their original paper covers.

Currier & Ives Lithograph of "Washington's Reception by the Ladies, On Passing the Bridge at Trenton, N.J., April 1789." Hand-colored, published in New York, 1845. Image size is 13¼" x 9¼". Fine; even overall toning with tiny tone burn spot in top of covered bridge. Attractively matted and framed to an overall size of 20" x 15½". Beautiful early print of Washington's procession from Mount Vernon to New York to be inaugurated first President of the United States. Every town along the way greeted him as the conquering hero.

George Washington, Hand-Colored Engraving. Outstanding full-length portrait of General Washington, holding the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Alliance with France, as his slave tends to his horse in the background. Originally published in Rouen in the 1780s, taken after a painting by Charles Wilson Peale, this appears to be a later restrike. Print is 16¼" x 12¼"; housed in a light blue 21¼" x 17½" matte.

Kelloggs & Comstock Print, "Washington's Reception By The Ladies, At Trenton N.J. April 1789." Hand-colored, published in Hartford, Conn, n.d. (c. 1840s). Image size is 9¼" x 12¾". Fine except for one small closed ¾" tear at left center margin and area of darker toning in lower left area of image and along the bottom title area. Attractively matted and framed to an overall size of 16" x 18½". Early print.of Washington's procession from Mount Vernon to New York to be take the oath as first President of the United States.

Washington & His Family by Sartain. A handsome group portrait intaglio engraving, being a proof copy signed in pencil by the artist ("William Sartain") in lower right border, with printed "PROOF" 19½x25½", matted to 20½x27", Fine; period matte has small break at lower left. "Entered According to Act of Congress in the Year 1864 by C. Schussele in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." Sartain was a nationally-recognized historical artist, having done portraits of Lincoln and his family, among others.

"Washington and His Family" by Sartain. Large steel mezzotint engraving by William Sartain based on a painting by G. Schussele of Philadelphia, published by Bradley & Co., Philadelphia, 1864. Image measures 17½" x 24½". Overall moderate toning and a water stain in the right side of the print and margin. Several nail holes along outer edges of upper and lower margins, with minor paper loss, can be easily covered by framing. Washington dressed in his military uniform, sits at a large table with Martha, surrounded by her two grandchildren and with Washington's faithful slave, William Lee, in the background. On the table lies the plan for the city of Washington.

  Washington Lodge Pitcher and Plate. An 8½" Masonic portrait plate from 1903 (reverse marked Vienna Austria) with blue and white glaze beneath gold gilt. With an 11" high pitcher (with gilt silver trim), showing a full color portrait of George Washington and dated 1912; the other side identifies the "Worshipful Master Llewellyn M. Pierce" and other officers. Base marked "Thomas Maddock's Sons Company Trenton NJ." Both items with negligible signs of wear but no chips, cracks or other damage. From the Washington Lodge No. 59 in Philadelphia.
