Barber Quarter Dollars

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 803
1892 Barber Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. A visual sensation, this coin sports fabulous iridescent shades of silvery gray (the face, almost like a cameo), deep amber gold, and bright neon blue. Fully struck, in every design detail. A few dots of PVC above the cap should be removed--and the grade could go up even more.

Fully struck and original, with light tawny gold toning and moderate circulation marks. Mintage for the year plunged to 188,039 as orders came in light that year in San Francisco. Most seen are in low grades, not so here, with this glorious EF-45 a feast for the date collector.

Lot 834
1900 Barber Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. One of the nicest Uncirculated Barber quarters we have ever seen. Fully struck, of course, and shimmering in bright blue, amber-gold, and mauve iridescence. PCGS has not seen anything better than MS66 in this date. NGC has graded 2 as MS67, and one MS68. Now, the cataloguer happens to have seen those other coins. The other MS67 had some abrasions, which this one does not. And even that MS68 was not quite as flawless at the microscopic level as this piece. This MS67 is in an old holder. We think it's the ultimate Millennium quarter. Upon review, this one could be the first MS69 for the date. This isn't a case of "grade inflation." No, this is a case of perfection overlooked.

1901-S Barber Quarter Dollar. Fine-12. The key date to the Barber quarter series, the 1901-S is not the lowest mintage (1913-S) but its valued far more. Apparently most weren't saved and as a date this is usually found in low grades. This particular coin was well struck, but has minor surface scratches on the obverse and a few small tick marks too.
