Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 3704
Original Series, $2 National Bank Note. Fallkill National Bank, Poughkeepsie, NY. PCGS graded About New 50PPQ. . Fr-387. . KL-1093. This lovely example is from a small run of high grade examples that were saved many decades ago, each of which is variously listed as either "AU" or "CU" in the Kelly census. "Lazy Deuces" in any grade are scarce -- less than 1,800 are currently reported for all banks nationwide -- and high grade, problem-free examples with good originality are increasingly difficult to locate.Tightly trimmed as usual, but with terrific pen signatures.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

Lot 3707
1882, $10 National Bank Note. First NB of Herndon, PA. CGA graded Gem Uncirculated 65. . Fr-545. . KL-1205. This rare second charter note is one of only five notes reported in the Kelly census from this bank, and the only high grade piece known. Curiously, the three large size notes known are all second charters--2,740 sheets of third charter notes were printed but apparently have not survived. This extraordinary note is gorgeous in every way, and would be a highlight of any Pennsylvania collection.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

1902, $5 National Bank Note. The McKeen NB, Terre Haute, IN. CGA graded Gem Uncirculated 67. . Fr-588. . KL-1144. This serial number 4 $5 is as nice as any we've seen.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.

1902, $5 National Bank Note. First NB & TC of Utica, NY. Very Fine. . Fr-598. . KL-1155. This bank is not rare, however the second title offered here is represented by only five notes in the Kelly census. It is perfectly original and problem-free save for a minor stain at the upper left.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.

Lot 3711
1902, $5 National Bank Note. NB of Commerce, Baltimore, MD. PMG graded Uncirculated 62. . Fr-601. . KL-1158. Less than two dozen large size notes are known from this scarcer Baltimore bank, only a few of which are listed in the census as CU. This example has bright paper, bold inks, terrific stamped sigs, but a tight top margin limits the grade.
Estimated Value $550 - 650.

Lot 3713
1902, $5 National Bank Note. First NB of Vero, FL. PCGS graded About New 53PPQ. . Fr-606. . KL-1163. This spectacular rarity is a newly discovered serial number 1 example from a rare one-bank town in Indian River County. There are only two other notes known from here, both of which are much lower grade. Only a light fold or two prevent a higher grade on this piece, and the pen signatures are simply spectacular and add greatly to the note's appeal. This is truly a Florida "trophy" note, and one that will inspire spirited bidding that may well prove our estimate to be conservative in the extreme.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.

Lot 3718
1902, $50 National Bank Note. Red Seal. Farmers Deposit National Bank, Pittsburgh, PA. RCGS graded Very Fine 20. . Fr-664. . KL-1353. This is not a rare bank overall, as there are more than 100 large size and many more small size notes from here listed in the Kelly census. There is, however, just a single Red Seal known besides this one -- another $50 that is listed as grading "VG-Fine." This example is new to the census, which still numbers less than 100 known examples for the type from the entire country. With Red Seal Nationals in constant demand, especially in the higher $50 and $100 denominations, expect spirited bidding when this note crosses the auction block.
Estimated Value $9,000 - 12,000.
