1880, $5 United States Note. Fr-81. PCGS graded Superb Gem New 67PPQ. . Fr-81. . KL-211. A hugely margined "Woodchopper" Five with tremendous embossing, and bold inks and colors that give this note outstanding eye appeal. The bottom margin is a little larger than the top, but this is strictly because it is the "D" plate position note from the sheet -- a fact which is taken into consideration by the experts at PCGS Currency. A lovely note in every way.

1862, $10 United States Notes. Cut Sheet of Four. PCGS graded Extremely Fine 45. . Fr-93. . KL-359. A lovely run of four consecutive notes, each cut from the same sheet. They each have the visual appearance of a Choice CU note, however each has three light folds that are only evident after close inspection. Cut sheets of early U.S. type notes are rare in all grades, and finding a lightly circulated group is unusual. Expect this group to inspire a number of spirited bids.

Lot 3390
1869, $10 United States Note. PMG graded Gem Uncirculated 65. . Fr-96. . KL-362. PMG notes that this is a "Misalignment Error," which indeed appears to be the case as the back centering is far off enough for a portion of the note above on the sheet to be visible along the top edge. We've seen these Rainbow $10s before like this, as the back centering is often truly attrocious. The error classification is indeed technically accurate, as on a small size note it would readily be classified as such, but this is the first time we've seen one of these called an error. Since the experts at PMG have determined it so we can hardly disagree, and collectors will likely take their lead in bidding. "Exceptional paper quality, great color" as noted on the insert.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.

The comments on the back state "Nice Colors" -- a comment with which we fully agree, as the rainbow of tints that gives this note its nickname are fully brilliant.

1869, $10 United States Note. PMG graded Uncirculated 62. . Fr-96. . KL-362. Margins are the only detrimental factor to the grade on this Rainbow $10, as the left margin is close on the face. The colors are above average and the overall eye appeal is quite decent for the grade.

Lot 3402
1901, $10 United States Note. PCGS graded Superb Gem 67PPQ. . Fr-119. . KL-385. This outstanding Bison note is one of only three examples of the type to be awarded this lofty grade by PCGS, and the only Fr. 119--both of the others were Fr. 114s. No other Bisons have received a higher grade from PCGS, who is considered by most experts to be the most conservative grader of high-end large type in today's market. This lovely example displays incredible centering, broad margins, and bold colors throughout. The embossing is readily evident through the holder, proof that its originality is undisturbed. It is this cataloger's experience that very high grade Bisons are in fact very rare, especially relative to other similarly popular design types such as Indian Chiefs and Portholes, and the population data (when made available by the two major grading services) will likely eventually prove that point.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 30,000.
