Outstanding, Colorful Small Agate Carvings. China or Japan, c. 1960's - 1980's. More examples of the preceding material. Of note: a gray-lavender ball being fought over by two cats, one red-orange, one orange-brown; a baby Buddha, an almost gray-lavender, cradled in a lotus bloom, the petals in browns, the leaves a fine green; a carp above a lily pad, the fish in yellow, the pad rust colored, the waves whitish; and more. Lengths: 1-1/2" - 3". Inspection highly recommended -- these are enjoyable objects. Lot of 11 items.

Outstanding, Colorful Small Agate Carvings. China or Japan, c. 1960's - 1980's. Even more examples of the preceding material: a reddish monkey on cluster of leaves, the leaves graduating from a yellow-gray into a spinach green; a young boy in a grayish chalcedony supporting a vivid orange dragon banner over his back; antithetical chilongs, one a tan-creme, the other a red-orange; or a chilong in a fine blue, on clear grayish clouds, plus another one similar, but with a dragon instead. And more appealing examples. Lengths: 1-1/4" - 2-1/4". Inspection recommended -- these are enjoyable objects. Lot of 15 items.

A Colorful Collection of Snuff and other Bottles. China, 19th - 20th century. A handsome lot in wood, hard stone and jade, silver, cloisonnée, glass, and ceramic. Motifs included: a fine cloisonnée double-bottle; painted bottle with mythical figures; an antique container from a gourd with incised garden scene; and an amusing bottle in wood carved as a dog balancing a ball on its nose. A handsome grouping - - made in fine burled wood, interior-painted glass, carved hard stone, bone, cloisonnée enamel, lacquer and mother of pearl, and porcelain. Included: an erotic bottle, a miniature with a remarkable tiny painted figural scene, colorful agate, a frog and a worm on a bean pod, and fine lacquer work. Heights: 1-1/4" - 3-1/4". Some of the glass are very convincing imitations of agates and other stones. A bottle in mustard yellow glass, with carved fish and plants; two bottles with interior painting; in white glass or stone, a bottle finely carved as a leaping fish; a slim, vase-like piece in pale jade, with dragon handle. One bottle in almost iridescent rutilated smokey quartz; and another dignified carving apparently in black obsidian. The antique cloisonnée with goldfish and scenic designs. A Colorful Collection of New & Antique Stamp Seals. China, Europe, 19th - 20th century. Seals fashioned in carnelian and agate, jade, ivory, silver, porcelain, rose quartz, soapstone, and steel. Some simple chops, but most with well carved foo dog or chilong finials. Most with Chinese characters on base. Also included are European desk stamps: one a fine Baronial piece of twin stamps with ivory handle; another with colorful bakelite handle, from the Deco Period; a Louis XVI-style with lovers in a garden; a small stamp with a boar's tusk handle. Also an antique Tibetan seal with four swastikas as a device. Heights: 1" - 3-1/4". Worth a good look, some fine examples of this age old traditional tool. Lot of 17 items.

Fancy Pattern Agate Boxes. Continental, 19th - early 20th century. Boxes ovoid, square, and rectangular, with milled gold-filled or gilt brass, or brass frames. All with impressively patterned agate, carnelian, and one bloodstone lids. The finest with Pietre Dure cover, incorporating colored agates and malachite. Perhaps handicrafts from Idar-Oberstein, Germany. All of the pieces still with their Butterfield's lot stickers. Largest box: 2-1/2" x 1". Lot of 6 items.

Antique and Vintage Smoking Accessories. Germany and Elsewhere, 19th - early 20th century. The most delightful item of this group being the carved meerschaum pipe bowl of a saucy young lady dressed for some horseplay, complete with riding crop! (Repaired at leg, with slight losses.) Also a vintage Dutch wood pipe carved as a wooden shoe. Also antique cloisonnée cigarette holders from the Orient, and similar, in silver, from Mexico, plus one in 14 kt yellow gold, plus the tiniest lighter ever seen -- also Mexico, in silver. and an automated crush-proof metal frame for a cigarette box, plus two agate and metal boxes -- one for holding matches. Largest item: 5". Lot of 13 items.

Vintage: from Japan, an ivory and hardwood figure of a smiling fisherman, with catch at his feet; plus a cannister in bamboo, lacquered, with crane motif. A Nifty Group of Coin-made Objects. China & Western Europe, 18th - early 20th century. First, a circular box made from British shillings of George III; also a Victoria 3 Pence was used to create a tiny padlock (key included); also a fob made up from silvered half pennies of Edward VII (1901-1910), these punched with high relief portrait of the king. From China, a cylindrical box is made to resemble a stack of half dollars of Yuan Shih-kai, whose coin forms the lid. Related: a pair of finger nail clippers - - one a coin-like souvenir of the George VI coronation in 1937; and another made from a reduced size imitation of a Spanish-Mexican 8 Reales of Charles III. A good lot. Lot of 6 coins.

Choice "Coin" Snuff Bottle in Silver. China, early 20th century. A heavy, cast and chased bottle, with side panels comprising a Ching Dynasty silver dollar (c. 1911), with facing dragon. The sides and cap finely detailed with floral arabesques on patterned background. The coin shows moderate wear, the bottle less. With handsome old toning. Height: 2-3/4".

Choice Decorative Utensils for the Opera Lover. U.S.A., c, 1900. Most impressive is the opera glasses, in aluminum(?), with mother-of-pearl trim and finely enameled and hand painted portraits of a pretty lady (signed "St. Marc"), in the Viennese manner. (Aluminum was still an exotic material at this time.) Also, a sumptuous parasol handle in boldly colored agate, with gold or gold-filled trim. And, if you are indecisive about your accoutrements, you can choose from 6 opera glass holders in silver, and mother-of-pearl with gold or gold-filled trim, all with telescoping handles; the pincher ends mostly tortoise shell. Some of these showing patent dates of 1882-1889. Lot of 8 items.
