1892 Columbian Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. Beautiful violet and electric blue toning. From center to periphery the intense flood of fresh luster glows. The devices were struck with full-on power by the dies causing all design elements to show boldly. 1936 Gettysburg Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Nicely toned around the edges. An impressive superb gem in all regards. The satiny surfaces are underneath the toning full with satiny luster, the strike is detailed, while the all-seeing "eye appeal" is nothing short of outstanding. This has so-called "tab toning" from the issue card in which it was no doubt kept for many years (PCGS # 9305) .

Lot 3342
1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Lightly toned. The delicately toned color is especially attractive on this well struck Hawaiian commemorative. Only 10,008 1928 "Captain Cook" Half Dollars (as collectors from our fiftieth state prefer to call them) were coined; of these, many, many found a home in change purses or curiosity boxes, they being, for the most part, sold to non-collectors in the islands. Once in the public's hands many got banged about and abraded. To this day, well-toned About Uncirculated specimens turn up regularly at coin stores in Honolulu. Having that in mind you have before you one of the few very choice Mint State examples left. 9,958 coins minted; 50 Proofs were also issued (PCGS # 9309) .
Estimated Value $2,700 - 3,000.

Lot 3343
1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. Nice natural toning on both sides. Glistening fields rise and fall with original choice mint bloom. Against this are set serious, satiny design elements. It is interesting to see, as well, that typical for the Captain Cook commemorative, this was struck from well-prepared dies that imported a sound and in point of fact, a bold design in Cook's wig and coat buttons, as well as the Chieftain's loin cloth and feather cloak (PCGS # 9309) .

1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-63. Natural toning on both sides. Popular key date commem. Satiny, lustrous surfaces display the proper "aged" toning from the brown paper issue envelope, evidence that this has been uncleaned and stored carefully through the years. Rich toning throughout. Bold strike on both sides. The portrait of Captain James Cook was designed by Juliette May Fraser of Honolulu, Hawaii and executed by Chester Beach. A native Hawaiian chief is depicted on the reverse. Only 10,000 were made and distributed (50 of which were Proofs given as presentation pieces).
