Seated Liberty Dimes

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1477
1838-O Liberty Seated Dime. No stars. PCGS graded AU-58. Lovely greyish-violet. Slightly irridescent toning. First year at the New Orleans mint and a low mintage issue combine to make this a very popular dated seated Liberty dime. It helps even more that the surface is outstanding, original, and gives aesthetic appeal to the sharp design features (PCGS # 4564) .
Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,750.

Lot 1481
1867 Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-67. Delicate rainbow hues on both sides. The satin-like luster is almost unimpaired by abrasions of any size, and is therefore immaculate. The equally superb devices were struck with the primary energy required to impart the design to the outer areas as well as enough vigor by the dies to impart clear-cut centers. This is a not well-known trait of seated Liberty dimes in Mint condition. 625 proofs minted. Pop 3; 1 finer in 68.
Estimated Value $3,200 - 3,400.

Lot 1482
1870-S Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-64. Lightly toned. Semi prooflike. 50,000 coins minted. A lovely example of this very scarce S-mint date, there are no obvious bagmarks on either side and the color is fresh, natural, medium golden brown to "old school" gray. About as fully struck as these are normally found, with just terrific detail in the head and shield of Liberty (two areas were problems can occur). With so few pieces struck, most of the mintage was dropped into circulation and only a tiny percentage was set aside in high grades. Pop 5; 10 finer; 8 in 65; 2 in 66. (PCGS # 4652) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

Lot 1489
1884 Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-68 Star. A superb pristine gem. A perfect totally white coin. With an original mintage of 3.3 million pieces, it is little wonder that the 1884 is popular among type collectors. Only the most advanced type collectors, however, will have the opportunity to acquire an MS68 representative. We have never handled a similarly graded 1884 Seated Dime. Both sides ripple with thick, frosty mint luster. There is not even a single mentionable surface blemish, and the outward appearance is one of radiant brilliance. Thin glowing silvery hue serves to amplify the already bold devices. This is tied with two others for the finest examples known to NGC, and it is matched by a toned MS68 representative at PCGS. NGC #17755760-001. Pop 3; none finer.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
