1914-D Lincoln Cent. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. A fiery mint red beauty. One would be hard pressed to locate a more attractive '14-D cent at this grade level even if one were to present itself in the next sale. The richly frosted, rotating coppery surfaces, like summer sunset, provide a surge of unimpeded mint luster. Fortunately for bidders, this coin, too, was struck with the controlled precision that is expected throughout the outer peripheral areas, while thoroughly bold and uncompromised at the portrait of Lincoln as well as on the wheat ears. Pop 128; 56 finer. (PCGS # 2473) .

Lot 1084
1922 Lincoln Cent. No D. Strong reverse. PCGS graded AU-55 Brown. Nice chocolate brown color with ample remaioning luster. The desirable strong reverse shows major detail in the wheat ears, while the rims are quite choice as well, all serving to sustain the choice AU55 grade. Pop 36; 58 finer. (PCGS # 3285) .

Once the discovery was made that despite mint reports no Philadelphia cents were struck in 1922, specimens seemed to be available. Later the riddle was solved: in the order to the Denver Mint to strike cents, that facility used the dies it had in stock already. When a 1922-D obverse die clashed, the clash marks were ground off the die, which also served to remove the mintmark. More were struck using one or the other of two different reverse dies. This more desirable reverse has strong detail; also, the obverse shows no trace of the mintmark.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

1955 Lincoln Cent. Doubled die obverse. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. Very nice coin. A blazing deep fire-red coppery beauty with radiant luster, a clear strike on all obverse doubling, and visual appeal commensurate with the choice grade. Meticulous strike on every device is what collectors hope for in a 1955 doubled die cent, and this coin, unlike those that don't quite make the "full" grade, is ultra crisp, double the sharpness as an average specimen. For that reason, the numerical condition is exact. Pop 138; 18 in 65RD. (PCGS # 2827) .
