Lot 465
1838 $5 Classic Head. Sharpness of AU. Light reverse scratch. A very attractively toned quarter eagle with richly imbued luster around the devices that graces the frosty warm golden surfaces. Nicely struck for the date, indeed, about as fine as this 1838 issue is ever found. William Kneass, the designer, would have loved this one! (PCGS # 8176) .
Estimated Value $350 - 400.

1869-S $5 Liberty. VF-25. Cleaned long ago. The issues struck in the 1860s saw extensive circulation. Also, there were made in rather small numbers compared to later dates, accounting for their scarcity. A choice, attractive example in spite of the light cleaning. Now toned (PCGS # 8318) .
Estimated Value $250 - 275.
