Lot 3632
Important Early Numismatic Book: Thesauri Electoralis Brandenburgici Continuatio: sive Numismatum Romanorum. By BEGERO, LAURENTIO; undated, c.1697, printed by Michael Rudiger, Berlin. A large folio work detailing the Roman coins in the collection of the Electors of Brandenburg. Introduction, pages 525-870 plus a large index. With many hundreds of wood-cut illustrations of coins as well as elaborate illustrations of buildings, etc., and allegorical scenes, including a magnificent frontisepiece featuring the a crowned figure (Julius Caesar?) surrounded by personifications of death, time, etc. and being crowned with laurel-wreath by Victory.

Bound together with another installment volume again by BEGERO: Thesauri Regii at Electoralis Brandenburgici Volumen Tertium.; 1701. Large illustrated folio like preceding, and including as well Greek antiquities. With indices, plus 472 pages of text, numerous text illustrations and wonderful full page plates.

Complete in large folio, full-leather original binding; the interior contents fine and clean. This volume looks to be rebacked in the 18th or early 19th century, using the original covers; with attractive marbled end pages. Corners heavily rubbed, binding a little shakey, but overall sound. The Bookplate that of the ANS, and appears to have been de-accessioned in 1966.

These among a set of volumes by Bergero dedicated to Frederick I of Prussia, father of Frederick the Great. Frederick I of Prussia, Elector of Brandenburg, King in Prussia, Hohenzollern, was the first King of Prussia, reigning from January 18, 1701, until his death in Berlin, in 1713.
Estimated Value $750 - 950.
