Lot 207
1917-D Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. Type 1. NGC graded MS-63 Full Head. Crisp frosty, undisturbed mint luster that is nicely toned yet still shows gleaming originality. A well struck example of this beautifully designed Type. The standing Liberty quarter was "intended to typify in a measure the awakening interest of the country to its own protection," Mint Director von Engelken said at the time the coins first appeared early in 1917. Perhaps that admission was a bit of war propaganda since America stood on the brink of its own war declaration against the Axis Powers in the European War of 1914-18.
Estimated Value $250 - 300.

1927-D Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. A splendid and frosty Gem with no visible imperfections in the gleaming luster and light natural patina of both sides. Only 976,400 minted of the 1927-D. However, this date was saved in large enough numbers (unlike the very scarce 1927-S) that gems turn up regularly. Still, it is the low mintage that interests many buyers (PCGS # 5762) .
Estimated Value $400 - 450.

1934 Washington Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Lovely light golden toning. Swimming in mint brilliance over each side of this sharply made Gem, the toning has a trace of silvery to sky blue iridescence at the edge. Once the mint began issuing Statehood quarters in 1999, the Washington quarter series "took off" as it were. Thousands of new collectors joined the hunt for high-quality specimens like this very elusive MS66 1934-D. Superb! (PCGS # 5793) .
