Lot 1596
1888 Liberty Nickel. NGC graded Proof 66. Well struck and mostly untoned. Amazing lustrous surfaces are alive with rich nickel to silver brilliance. Nicely struck, too, for the date since 1888 Proofs can come flat on the stars and often show some reverse details weak; everything about the present example says "full", we are happy to say. Fully struck coins are just the thing in today's active market for Gem quality Liberty nickels. Pop 106; 16 in 67; 1 ubn 67 Star.

Lot 1599
1889 Liberty Nickel. PCGS graded Proof 66. A gem with a streak of light golden toning. Pop 61, 7 better by a point. While Mint State examples are scarcely available above the Gem level, Gems Proofs are almost as elusive. This is a frosty-mirror combination Proof, lightly patinated, and a high-end survivor that is indicative of an even higher grade. The toning has a wonderful wood-grain appearance as seen on various dates, but from 1886 to 1889 mostly (PCGS # 3887) .

1893 Liberty Nickel. NGC graded MS-65. Lustrous with delicate pastel toning. Moderate weakness in some stars, but sharply struck on Liberty's hair and coronet. The sometimes volatile cartwheel luster has been tamed somewhat by the dynamic toning of this 1893 Liberty nickel. What also sparks our interest is the varying hues of color that mingle broadly with rich pure-nickel iridescence. An attractive gem that shows off its color proudly. Pop 68; 7 in 66; 2 in 67.

1895 Liberty Nickel. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Brilliant with a hint of light golden toning. Lustrous golden gray with grand overall eye appeal for this high quality. Crisp detail on all devices. A remarkable coin in a popularly collected series. The Liberty nickels were minted in Proof each year from 1883 to 1912. Some of the dates in the 1890s, this 1895 being an example, are much scarcer in Gem condition than originally believed. 2,062 proofs struck. Pop 5; 1 in 67 Cam.

1900 Liberty Nickel. PCGS graded MS-66. The surfaces are highly lustrous and each side has a light coating of golden patina that swirls and alternates between lighter and darker hues. 1901 Liberty Nickel. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck and untoned. A small mark at the eyebrow. The surfaces are frosty and radiant. There is no toning. Need we remind bidders that a weak impression was left by the rebound of the (often dilapidated) dies that usually struck this series, especially at the stars and on the left ear of corn on the reverse; however, in the present case, the opposite is true, the coin shows outstanding detail and a clear, bold strike (PCGS # 3862) .

1902 Liberty Nickel. PCGS graded MS-65. Nice bold strike. The surfaces are, like those of the 1900 Liberty nickel just offered highly lustrous and each side has a pristine nickel brightness with a blush of color. This is a well-struck example with good details in the stars, the hair, and on the wreath.
