Great Britain. 2 Pounds, 1831. S.3828; Fr-382; KM-718. William IV. Features an obverse portrait of King William and a reverse design of a crowned Hanoverian shield and mantle. There was no 5 Pound coin issued in this King's short series and the £2 was the largest denomination- a one-year type and extremely rare. Only a few slight surface marks. NGC graded Proof 61 Ultra Cameo.
Estimated Value $6,750 - 7,500.

Lot 1240
Great Britain. Proof 'Una & Lion' 5 Pounds, 1839. S.3851; Fr-386; KM-742. Victoria. Engraved by William Wyon. The obverse design features a young bust of Victoria aged 20 years, while the reverse has the Queen dressed as Una leading the British lion. This gorgeous specimen is remarkably free from scuffs and has a very minimum amount of the hairlines that other examples of this rare coin fall victim to. Brilliant fields and with the cameo effect this specimen is exquisite. NGC graded Proof 63 Ultra Cameo.
Estimated Value $45,000 - 50,000.

Lot 1241
Great Britain. Proof Sovereign, 1839. S.3852; Fr-387a. Victoria Young Head. Plain edge. The standard Proof from the coronation sets, with coin-die axis. Much nicer than most seen, although it does have a shallow scratch in the right obverse field. Most of the survivors of this low-mintage issue have been badly mishandled over the past 167 years and show lots of marks and heavy scratches. Not this one! Choice Proof, Deep Cameo contrast of the queen/s portrait with the mirror field, and lovely color. NGC graded Proof 63 Ultra Cameo.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Lot 1244
Great Britain. Sovereign, 1850. S.3852C. Victoria Young Head. The 1850 sovereign is a truly rare, vastly underrated date, as are the other denominations of this same year. Lot 1247
Great Britain. Sovereign, 1871. S.3853B; Fr-387i; KM-736.2. Victoria. A relatively common date in lower grade, and usually prone to contact marking and light wear, the 1871 'Young Head' Sovereign is now difficult to find in top grades. This is a superb early striking (die no. 28) with a lightly frosted portrait and a prooflike obverse field. NGC graded MS-65.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.

Lot 1248
Great Britain. Proof Sovereign, 1887. WR-331. Bu William Wyon. Reeded edge. Victoria. Young head left. Reverse: Crowned square topped shield within laurel branches. A lovely, dazzling brilliant coin with wonderful eye-appeal. An exceptional rarity for the connoisseur. Extremely Rare. NGC graded Proof 64 Cameo.

As indicated in the Douglas-Morris sale: Since no currency sovereigns of this type and the following type (St. George reverse) were issued by the London Mint, it has been suggested that these proofs could be trials (without mintmarks) for colonial sovereigns.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 25,000.
