Pennsylvania, Reading 1902, DB $20 National Bank Note. The Reading NB. PCGS Suberb Gem New 68PPQ. . Fr-647. . KL-1298. Super high quality and extremely rare -- the best of all possible worlds! This incredible note has perfectly balanced margins, perfect crackling crispness, and lovely bright colors, as the image shows and as first-hand inspection with a magnifying glass reveals in all its splendor. Pennsylvania National collectors will want to take this opportunity to place a strong bid. Pop 1; none finer for $20 NB DB Reading PA.

Reading, Pennsylvania, home to the Reading Company (pronounced "Reding"), a name remembered mainly as a railroad, was in its heyday a multifaceted industrial giant. Originally established as The Philadelphia & Reading Railroad in 1833 to transport anthracite coal, the pioneering 94-mile line from Reading to Philadelphia evolved into a mighty corporation serving eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Operations included coal mining, iron making, canal and sea-going transportation and shipbuilding. With its great complex of shops for locomotive and car building and repair, and constant advances in railroad technology, the company held a position of leadership in the railroad industry for over a century.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

If you could own only one of these Mount Savage notes, this would be a wonderful example. Today, the bank building which still stands in the middle of town, is used as a model train museum. It is opened during the Christmas season where a working train exhibition is set up for the public. A great town with an equally great history, Kelly reports only 8 notes in the census. Four notes are represented in this sale alone!

Fr-650. 1902, $20 National Bank Note. FNB Cumberland, MD. . Fr-650. . KL-1302. PCGS New 62. This is a sparkling new example of the earliest chartered of the four Cumberland City National Banks. Most of the 21 reported large are 3rd charter $10's, so this is also slightly better from that regard. Some minor handling on the top reverse is all that precludes a higher grade. One of the finest survivors from this bank, and a lovely 3rd charter note.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,000.

Lot 5187
Kansas. Topeka. 1902, $20 National Bank Note. The Kaw Valley NB. . Fr-658. . KL-1310. Fresh paper and bright colors, with typical uneven trimming at the top and bottom. Signatures, while readable, are faint blue. National Bank Notes were printed up in sheets, usually containing 4 notes to a sheet. They were then sent to the respective banks in uncut form, leaving it to the bank officials to decide when to separate the notes. Some are separated carefully using a cutting-board, while others are unceremoniously snipped apart by someone in the bank using a pair of old scissors, which resulted in uneven top and bottom margins. The side margins are always sharp as well as wide, unless the not has been trimmed at some time after it got into collector's hands. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
Estimated Value $800 - 900.

Fr-660. 1902, $20 National Bank Note, FNB Salisbury, PA. . Fr-660. . KL-1312. PCGS Very Fine 20.This town was literally "wiped out" by a tornado 8 years ago. Fortunately, they have since rebuilt. It is a predominately Amish community situated 4 miles north of Granstville, MD. With only 7 notes in the Kelly census, appearances of this scarce one-bank charter are very few indeed.
