Original with colors almost as bright as the day they were printed, this brown back is as lovely as it is rare. This bank went out in 1920 which accounts for why so few survivors were previously known.

Fr-493. 1882, $20 National Bank Note. FNB Cumberland, MD. . Fr-493. . KL-1258. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. This is by far the nicest Brown Back for this bank, and one of the finest $20's for the state overall. Although there are 21 large currently on the census for this bank, most are 3rd charter notes. This is an extremely elusive note in an unheard-of condition. Everything is present on this note, from fresh embossing to bright colors and dark, bold signitures. Large size uncs on any Western Maryland notes are rare, as almost all known notes saw extensive circulation.

Fr-601. 1902, $5 National Bank Note, FNB Romney, WV. . Fr-601. . KL-1158. PCGS Fine 12. Although it is well known local lore that the number 1 note exists on this bank, it is unfortunately bolted to the bank's walls with absolutely no intention of ever parting with it. That makes this number 2 note, which by the way is new to the census, even more desirable. Romney is a little one-bank town 30 miles southwest of Cumberland, MD. Situated on the crossroads of Routes 50 and 28, it is one of those small town thoroughfares that many people pass through, but few people stop for. This fresh note is a great find, and as most collectors are aware, number 2's are many times rarer than number 1's.
