Berlin, Irving (1888-1989) Prodigious American composer and lyricist. Autograph Letter Signed "Irving," 2pp, 7¾x5", n.p., n.d. (1924). To Eunice (Emery), on "being back into harness for a couple of weeks," asking her to keep him informed "as to 'going's on' at the two INNS - JUNGLE and PEACOCK….," offering to have his letter translated into English if she can't read it, and other humorous remarks. With a telegram announcing his arrival in Palm Beach, and a small card: "with best wishes for a speedy up and out. Irving Berlin."

Schõnberg, Arnold (1874-1951) Austrian composer. Typed Letter Signed, in German, 1 p., 10¾x8¼", Frankfurt, 12 Oct. 1928. Fine. To Paul Aron in Dresden, stating that, in principle, he would be happy to accept Aron's kind invitation to perform his "Suite opus 29" with Aron. "However, adequate pre-rehearsals would have to be arranged because it's impossible for me to stay long enough for you to learn it from the very beginning…." Musicians and critics say that long exposure and repeated listening is necessary to appreciate Schõnberg's music, and, obviously, to play it properly. "Suite opus 29" is scored for seven instruments.

Black nationalist leader and spokesman for the Nation of Islam; founder of the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity; assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam, from which he had resigned. New Testament with white vinyl covers Inscribed and Signed "As Salaam Alaikum - Greetings from the Fountain. Bro Malcolm X" in black ink on the first end page, 4½x3", n.p., n.d. Light toning and a few scuff marks to edges of covers, else fine. The formerly militant leader changed after his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1964; he began to preach to all races and was more hopeful for the future of race relations.
