Arthur, Jean (1900-91). She began in silent films but made the transition to the talkies, starring in the 1930s and 40s opposite leading men such as Gary Cooper, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant. She received an Oscar nomination in 1943 for "The More the Merrier." Two original vintage Edwin Bower Hesser photographs, one 17" x 14" (image is 9 ½" x 7"), and the other 10" x 8". No stamp on the first; the second has Hesser's backstamp and "This is Jean Arthur #65 / Hesser Art Study Series…" Some tears to wide borders on larger photo, easily matted out; the smaller photo has stains in the upper background and light marks on the chin and neck.

Bruce, Virginia (1910-82) Original vintage 14" x 11" Edwin Bower Hesser photograph with "Hesser Studios Inc….Hollywood" back stamp. A beautiful early photo taken soon after she came to Hollywood from Fargo, North Dakota, before Helen Virginia Briggs changed her name to Virginia Bruce (identified as "Virginia Briggs" on the back). Briggs starred in over 60 films, either starring in secondary films or playing the "other woman" in top-tier films. Some discoloration on upper arm, else fine.

Davies, Marion (1897-1961) Actress whose long relationship with newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst overshadowed her acting career. Two Edwin Bower Hesser original vintage 14" x 11" photographs, both with Hesser's back stamp and the darker photo with his embossed blind stamp at lower right; this photo, in which she wears a tiara, has "Print Too Dark" in block letters above the blind stamp. The lighter photo has some solarization or other discoloration in the four corners, not affecting the image.

Griffith, Corinne (1894-1979) Silent film actress; nominated for Best Actress for her performance in "The Divine Lady" (1929); in 1938, she wrote the lyrics for the Washington Redskins’ fight song, "Hail to the Redskins." Two Edwin Bower Hesser original vintage 16 ¼" x 13 ¼" photographs. No stamp on either. A demure right profile portrait in a robe or gown has Miss Griffith’s name and "Out" on the back; fine except for a couple of small edge tears. The other photo, in a dress and jacket, has heavy lower edge soiling (easily trimmed off) and one background blemish.

Two Edwin Bower Hesser original vintage photographs, 14" x 11". A chest-up portrait of Miss MacDonald wearing a plumed hat has Hesser's backstamp and is in fine condition. The second photo shows her leaning on a bear-skin rug; it has no backstamp, is missing a "bite" from upper left corner (easily covered) and has a couple of light creases in the dark background.

Murray, Mae (1889-1965) She began as a dancer in the 1910s with the Ziegfeld Follies; known as the "Girl with the bee-stung lips." Two original vintage 16 ¼" x 13 ½" photographs by Edwin Bower Hesser, with Hesser's backstamp on both. In one photo, Miss Murray wears a glamorous hat and holds pearls. Tip of upper left corner is missing and there is a break at lower right corner, plus a mark from a red grease pencil; "# 2" is penciled on the back. In the other photo, she holds a spray of flowers. There is a crease at lower right and both lower tips are missing; "#3" is penciled on the back.

Three Edwin Bower Hesser original vintage photographs; two are 13 ¼" x 10 ½" and identical dramatic poses, except that one is a darker version and has Hesser's backstamp and "Copy #12"; border staining can be matted out. The lighter version has spotting, solarization and is mounted to black paper. A 7" x 5" seated photo has the number "233" on the back and is fine.
