Barbier, George -- Pochoir Artist & Illustrator (1882-1945), one of the key French artists in advertising and graphic arts in the 20' and 30's.

Three works, two pochoirs and a vintage illustration from a magazine, all matted and framed. Included is "Au Revoir," a classic in blue of the melancholy of leave taking among the "tres riches." From one of his seminal, and most popular limited edition albums. Also, "Laissez-moi-seule!" -- an astute observation of haute couture at the time (1919). Last an advertising illustration from a vintage magazine: a fashionable young lady, holding a red mirror while a phoenix arises behind. Image sizes on the pochoirs: 8-3/4" x 11-5/8"; 11-3/4" x 8". Condition of all -- very fine.

A "pochoir" was a class of print usually hand-colored through a series of carefully cut out stencils. Popular in Paris, especially during the early decades of the 20th century. In the art deco period, used for fashion plates and specialty advertising and printings. Thus a medium favored by Barbier, who was one of many artists who made a living illustrating limited "editions de luxe", intended to be collectors items due to their limited circulation and high standards of printing. Lot of 3 prints.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Cox, David. Untitled. (1783-1859) Scottish landscape painter in watercolor and oil. Original watercolor, c. early 19th century, 10¼x14", on trimmed paper, matted to 16x20". A rugged landscape in which a rider approaches a large fortress. The suggested movement of the clouds show Cox' mastery of painting wind. Fine except for matt burns on back of paper. A fine impression of place and mood.

Goldberg, Ashley. Untitled. 20"x 20" Abstract painting, acrylic on canvas with gold leaf or metallic powder. Vibrant yet surprisingly low key orchestration of yellows, golds, and hot reds, with somber accents of ochre. Reminiscent of a sunrise, and the hope it entails, and yet perhaps a sunset instead -- a reining in… waiting? Signed in lower left corner with the year, "05". The aspiring young artist lives in Los Angeles and studied at Brentwood Art School in Brentwood, California. She enjoys abstract painting because people can determine their own impressions and meanings. Her works can be found in the T. Bass and J. Morris collections in Texas. Ashley is the sister of Jason Goldberg, co-producer with Ashton Kutcher of TV reality shows ("Punk'd" and "Beauty and the Geek").
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Lot 537
Goldberg, Ashley. Untitled. 11-3/4" x 11-3/4". Abstract painting, acrylic on canvas with gold leaf or metallic powder. A contest beteen nearly equal fields of Roman golds, bronze, and ochres and blacks. A duel of bright versus dark, yet arriving at stasis. One of the dark areas strongly suggestive of an eye or eyes. The subconcious looking back, waiting for a decision? Signed in lower right corner with the year, "05".
Estimated Value $250 - 350.
