Lot 1		Landseer, Sir Edwin Henry (1802-1873) Favorite painter of Queen Victoria. Autograph Letter Signed "Landseer," on blue stationery, 1½ pp, 6¼x4", St. John's Wood Road N.W., 16 May 1865. Fine. In part: "I am not able to give attention to any thing till after the 19th (when Her M goes North) - for whom I am working against time…." On May 8th, Landseer posed Queen Victoria seated on a horse held by her devoted servant John Brown [their relationship was the subject of the 1997 film Mrs. Brown] for a photograph which became the basis of the chalk drawing, "Her Majesty At Osborn In 1866." This drawing, now in the Royal Collection, was made into a popular print commonly called "Sorrow." Landseer was rushed because the Queen's annual summer visit to Balmoral could not be postponed. Lot 4		O'Keefe, Georgia (1887-1986) Autograph Letter Signed, 1 p., 11x8½", Albiquiu, New Mexico 12 Jan. (19)69. Fine. To Fred Maxwell, in response to some questions about one of her paintings: "Oak Leaves - Pink and Grey." In part: "…I have a record of the painting but no photograph. I laugh when I see it because the leaves are not oak leaves at all. I probably did not put the title on this picture myself….I think you have it upside down. I think the darker part is the top--but it doesn't really matter. When I frame a painting I try to make it look as if it has no frame…". Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500. Lot 5		Picasso, Pablo (1881-1973) Spanish artist and scultptor. Original pen "doodle" of a bullfight signed and dated "Picasso / 9.7.60.," 5¾x7", Very fine. Inside the arena, the picador stabs the charging bull with his lance as the matador stands ready with his cape. Drawn in black ink. Estimated Value $1,800 - 2,000. Lot 6		Picasso, Pablo (1881-1973) Spanish painter and sculptor. December 27, 1968 issue of LIFE Magazine signed on the cover, "Picasso 21.13.69" in pencil, n.p. Picasso is pictured on the cover and the "Special Double Issue" is entirely devoted to him. A small hole at the lower edge of the cover affects the lower part of the "1" in "13"; otherwise, fine except for light toning throughout. Estimated Value $400 - 600. Lot 7		Rockwell, Norman (1894-1978) American illustrator and artist. Typed Letter Signed on personal letterhead, 1p, 7¾x5¾", Stockbridge, Mass., 26 Mar. 1974. Very fine. Telling a Mr. Adams that he did one bi-centennial painting for the Franklin Mint and regretting that he can't do a sketch for Adams. Estimated Value $150 - 200. Lot 8		Rodin, Auguste (1840-1917) One of the greatest and most prolific sculptors of the 19th and 20th centuries. Photograph Inscribed and Signed, "en hommage a Mlle Mabel Beardsley / Aug. Rodin / 6 juillet 1909," on the left side of the mount. The three-quarter, oval-shaped image is 6¼x5". Fine except for a couple of tiny specks to the image; dampstain across lower edge of mount, and a small one at top edge can be covered by matting and framing. Lot 11		Schulz, Charles. 1922-2000) Cartoonist; creator of "Peanuts." Ink Drawing of Lucy Signed "Schulz," 3¾x3½", n.p., n.d. Very fine. Lucy, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts gang were introduced in 1950 and became icons of American culture.
