Lot 592
1925-S. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. Adequately struck with nice original toning. A lock-solid frosty surface with strong primary luster and rich toned highlights on both sides. More than adequately struck for the date, perhaps 75% so, since this issue rarely is, but certainly a coin that gets points design is concerned. There is a series of crosshatch marks on the hair at, above, and around the braid, which may be the result of insufficient metal flowing into the die rather than handling received after it went into the bank bag. This scarce coin never circulated. Pop 211; 15 in 65; 1 in 66. (PCGS # 3956) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.

1925-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-64. A fully lustrous beauty and spot free, with pleasing russet and nickel-gray patina. A far better strike that usual for this issue. The devices that were left by the dies lack a certain precision due to insufficient die pressure, but it often found on this date. Pop 212; 15 in 65; 1 in 66. (PCGS # 3956) .

Typical strike for the date, somewhat soft at the head and shoulder area of the reverse as well as on the Indian's hair and braid, but still choice where physical quality is concerned. Pop 212; 15 in 65; 1 in 66. (PCGS # 3956) .

1925-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-64. Lovely toning on both sides. A satiny golden example with frosty underlying luster. Weakly struck on the Indian's features as well as the buffalo. Indeed, the strike of the present coin easily mimics that of most 1925-S buffalo nickels and is why this issue is so difficult to find choice. Pop 212; 15 in 65; 1 in 66. (PCGS # 3956) .

Lot 603
1936 Buffalo Nickel. Type 1. PCGS graded Proof 67 Satin. Bold strike. Lovely toning and choice. The color ranges from strikingly beautiful gold with an almost wood-grain effect when viewed under magnification, to deep purples and silver-gray iridescence. What a treat for the eye. Meticulous strike on every device is what collectors hope for in a buffalo nickel Proof, and this coin, unlike those that don't quite make the "full" grade, is extra crisp, twice as sharp as an average Mint State specimen. For that reason, the numerical condition is exact. Pop 205; 25 in 68; 1 in 69 (PCGS # 3994) .

Lot 611
1937-D Buffalo Nickel. 3 legs. NGC graded MS-61. Lightly toned. A lustrous example of this popular error coin in which, after injury to the dies from clashing, the mint technician accidentally polished away the foreleg of the buffalo in an attempt to prolong the die's life. Little did he know it then, but he created one of the most talked-about buffalo nickel oddities of all time.
