Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 532
1856 Silver Three Cents. PCGS graded MS-64. Scarcer Type 2 design. Lovely light blue and golden toning. Several raised die lines within the shield stripes. The devices were struck with such insufficient power by the dies leaving most all design elements showing, but a few areas mushy such as the legends and portions of the date, among others. All the same, pleasant satin envelops all surfaces under its silvery radiance, with no the aforementioned attractive patina. Pop 60; 20 in 65; 3 in 66. (PCGS # 3672) .
Estimated Value $1,100 - 1,300.

1857 Silver Three Cents. PCGS graded MS-65. Bright and frosty. An splendid array of luster supports soft pastel silver and gold highlights. Nicely struck for this often unevenly made Type 2 design, with only marginal weakness on TES of STATES along with the stars on the reverse, which are flat-topped rather than needle-sharp. Pop 26; 6 better by a point. (PCGS # 3673) .
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,400.

1866 Silver Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 65 Cameo. An incredibly bright and highly lustrous gem Proof, a benchmark for other examples that share this impressive cameo grade. While the strike is bold and crisp, it is so sharp on the centers that there is nothing left to the viewer's imagination! Outstanding two-tone cameo Proof. Only 725 minted. Pop 7, 9 finer.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

Lot 535
1870 Silver Three Cents. NGC graded MS-64. Typically frosty for the issue, the choice surfaces that are free of singularly distracting bagmarks. We notice a slight deviation in the sharp relief seen, mainly in the centers of the coin where the shield outline failed to completely fill the dies and so merges slightly with the star. Attractively toned. Pop 29; 10 in 65; 7 in 66. Only 3000 minted (PCGS # 3691) .
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

1877 Nickel Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 63. Old holder. Nicely toned. Proof only year. This is a lightly patinated survivor of a Proof-only issue that is indicative of an even higher grade than Proof 63. About 510 struck, although some sources indicate a higher mintage around 900 pieces.
Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,500.

Lot 537
1881 Nickel Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 66. Old holder. Nice cameo effect. Toned. Struck with controlled precision throughout the outer peripheral areas, although somewhat weak and compromised on Liberty's hair, as often found on these later pieces, no doubt due to the age and wear on the master hub that the mint used to create the Proof dies.
Estimated Value $550 - 600.

Lot 538
1882 Nickel Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 67 Cameo. Mostly brilliant with a hint of light gold tone. This is a satiny silver gray to russet specimen with faint mirror-like wisps of iridescence on both sides typical for an 1882 Proof. Boldly struck for the date, certainly much finer than many others seen of this issue, and worthy of strong bidder consideration. Pop 18; 1 in 68 Cameo.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Lot 539
1883 Nickel Three Cents. PCGS graded Proof 67. Very choice with lovely light blue and lilac shades. A satiny to mirror-proof gem of the finest order. The high degree of bright cartwheel luster spins broadly beneath the toning highlights. What's more, everything is nicely struck without even a hint of weakness in the delicate features of Liberty. You can even count the 13 pearls or tiny beads lining Liberty's coronet! Pop 63; 4 in PF-68. (PCGS # 3779) .
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

1886 Nickel Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 66. Lightly toned. Satiny, lustrous surfaces display pale gray-blue to brownish toning on the obverse and the same but slightly lighter shades on the reverse. Scarce in Proof, scarce as a date, and the number of potential bidders should make it a popular item in the sale (PCGS # 3782) .
