Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 3213
Fr-713. 1918, $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. . Fr-713. . KL-66. New York district. With the establishment of the Federal Reserve System, a new type of currency came into existence. The notes issued under this system are the Federal Reserve Bank Notes and the Federal Reserve Notes. The Federal Reserve Bank Notes were also inscribed 'National Currency'; the Federal Reserve Notes are not so inscribed and are currency of the system proper, and not of the individual banks in the system. The obverse designs of these two issues are markedly different; the reverses are similar. There were two separate issues of the Federal Reserve Bank Notes, the series of 1915 and the series of 1918.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.

Lot 3233
Fr-899a. 1914, $10 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Gem New 65. . Fr-899a. Red Seal, a much scarcer Type. The Federal Reserve went into operation in 1913, in time to help the federal government finance its entry into World War I in 1917. These notes, while technically unbacked paper money, were convertible into specie (gold or silver) at banks upon request. Between 1917 and 1919, however, the payment in gold was suspended. The $10 denomination was a hard-working one, with most survivors well circulated. Gems like this are truly few and far between today. A fabulous opportunity for the collector to acquire a nice Red Seal 1914 $10.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Lot 3235
Fr-911a. 1914, $10 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ. . Fr-911a. An utterly fresh, gorgeous Gem whose perfection is easily seen in the crisp white paper, bold blue overprint on the front, and dark blue-green ink on the back design. This is the most proflic issuing district, New York, encompassing the money center of the country, New York City. Signatures are of White and Mellon.

Vignettes of factory and farm scenes are used on the $10 series Federal Reserve Notes and National Currency series 1910. On the back is the key redemption notice "payable in gold on demand" since in the early years of the Federal Reserve system (up to 1933) notes were backed by hard money. Later on, after the gold confiscation in April 1933, this no longer applied and eventually, the new small size Federal Reserve notes changed their obligation to what is for all intents and purposes a non-obligation.
Estimated Value $600 - 700.
